• We offer one-to-one appointments, term time drop-ins and workshops as well as detailed advice by email and SID online.

MUST REGISTER WITH A GP

• General Practitioner• Wide training• Deal with most illnesses in the Health Centre• Will refer to hospital specialist when necessary

• Nurses• Extra training• Can deal with minor ailments• Urgent cases normally seen by nurse first

If you need medical help

• Phone Surgery for appointment• If urgent for that day you will be seen that day,

usually by the nurse first• Pharmacist for minor illness• NHS Direct – 24 hr nurse telephone line • NHS Walk in Centres• Out of hours call doctor at Devon Doctors – number

given on answer phone• Accident and Emergency Department• Ambulance phone 999

Medicines

May have:-• Same• Same with different name• Nearest equivalent• Private prescription• Supply from home

• You have ongoing medical condition• You need to see a doctor/nurse• You would like to have a blood pressure and urine

check• You need vaccination

Vaccinations recommended

• MMR – Mumps, Measles, Rubella• Meningitis ACWY• ‘Flu’, influenza for some medical

conditions

Staying Healthy

• Look after yourself• Healthy eating• British Weather• Contraception• Keep up with work• Socialise • Expect to get colds

The common cold

• A common viral illness affecting nose/throat• Fluids, Paracetamol• See the pharmacist for advice• Lasts 3-10 days• The cough lasts up to 3 weeks• Adults get 2-4 per year

• ANTIBIOTICS ARE NOT HELPFUL
