million) 54% of population live under US$1 a day 2/3 of labor force do not have formal jobs Life expectantcy is 61 years For every 100,000 births 523 women died in Hait

compared to Europe were for every 100,000 births 8 women died

8% Haitian children never see their first birthday

Education 1/3 of girls over 6 never go to school 30% of primary school kids will not make it to the 3rd grade where

as 60% will drop out 25% of teacher have not even attended highschool 75% of all teachers lack adequate training; many have just a 9th

grade or 12th grade education, with no teacher training at all. Less than 20% schools have electricity Only 39% have drinkable water 15% have a library Roughly 40% of the population don’t know how to read and write Estimated annual school costs average US$131 per child (including
