“THE DIGITAL YOU”

● Your “CLOUD” is called Google Drive● Since you are storing all your papers, assignments, and

projects to Google Drive, you are always on the web ● This means you are creating a “DIGITAL FOOTPRINT”

We’ve gone digital! What do you need to know?

What is a “Digital Footprint”?

Time for a quick question...

“A digital footprint is a trail of data you create while using the Internet. It includes

the websites you visit, emails you send, and information you submit to online

services”.

What is a Digital Footprint?

● You and your papers, assignments, and projects are protected

in a bubble called

@central301.net, and

these footprints can only

be seen in that bubble!

Don’t worry...

● Be aware that any place on the web that asks for your information can track you.

● Be aware that any place on the web that you give your information to can also track you.

But, be careful...

What places do you go to, and apps do you use, that might

leave a digital footprint?

Time for a quick question...

● Amazon● Twitter● Facebook● SnapChat● Instagram● YouTube

Common places we leave our footprints

● Tumblr● Flickr● Vine● Pinterest● Vimeo● And thousands more

● Just like real

footprints in

the sand, your

Digital Footprints

leave a path that

others can follow!

Digital Footprints

● Have you ever searched online for something you wanted to purchase?

● Did you ever notice how when you do other searches on the internet you will get advertisements for the item you were shopping for?

● Someone has followed your footprints.

Footprints back to you...

● Remember, whatever you post online is always there!!!

● Even if you delete something, someone else may have already taken what was posted and forwarded it to other places you don’t even know exist .

BEWARE!!!

● Now that you know about being careful with your “footprints”, you are on your way to being a good “Digital Citizen”.

● What else can make you a good digital citizen?

Being a good “Digital Citizen”

Watch this video to learn about your role in being a good digital citizen!

1. Don’t copy or plagiarize others’ work.2. Cite sources for anything you are using that isn’t you

own original work.3. Don’t share others information or work without their

permission.4. Don’t pretend you are someone else.5. Don’t say something online that you wouldn’t say to

someone in person.

Being a good “Digital Citizen”

What is cyberbullying, exactly?

"Cyberbullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented,

threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise

targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet,

interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. It has to have

a minor on both sides, or at least have been instigated by a minor

against another minor.

Don’t be a Cyberbully

What are some examples of Cyberbullying?

Quick question time...

What do I do if Cyberbullying occurs?

● Tell the bully to stop using clear and simple language. Ex. “Stop! I don’t deserve to be treated this way.”

● If the bullying continues after you have told the person to stop, DO NOT RESPOND OR REACT ONLINE! (The bully wants you to react… don’t give him/her that power.)

● Block the individual who is doing the bullying.● If the incident occurs at school or a school sponsored event, and the bully

persists after you have set boundaries, report the incident to an adult.

parents may be informed.

● A good rule of thumb is to send emails and correspondence that you would be comfortable sharing with your parents. Visit websites that you would be comfortable letting your parents know you have been visiting.

● Be careful of your digital footprints.● Keep your information private.● Avoid strangers, don’t friend everyone that you do not know.● Be mindful of what you say and post on your Chromebook and personal

device. ● Do your own work and cite your sources.● Stop cyberbullying!
