In 456 Face value of the 6 is 6, the face value of 5 is 5 and the face value of 4 is 4.
Place Value is the value of the digit according to its “place” or “position” in the
number!
Example :-
In 8, 62,743
L Tth TH H T O 8 6 2 7 4 3
Place Value Face Value
3 is at ones place 3 x 1=3 3 4 is at tens place 4 x 10 = 40 4
7 is at hundreds place 7 x 100 = 700 7 2is at thousand place 2 x 1000 = 2000 2
6 is at ten thousand place 6 x10,000 = 60,000 6
8 is at Lakh place 8 x 1,00,000 = 8,00,000 8
5
Note: - The number that is at ones place their place value and face value will be always
same.
Expanded form: - The sum of the place values of its digits is called the expanded
form.
Example: - 68,872 = 60,000 + 8000 + 800 + 70+2
5, 49, 251 = 5, 00,000 + 40,000 + 9000 + 200 + 50 + 1
Standard form: - A number in its original form is called standard form of the
number.
Example:- 40,000 + 5000 + 300 + 20 + 3 = 45,323
60,000 + 4000 + 20 + 5 = 64,025
Q1. Write in the expanded form.

Properties of Addition
Two or more numbers can be added in any order.
25 + 10= 35
10+ 25 = 35
30 + 10+ 16 =56
16+ 30 + 10 = 56
Adding 0 to a number gives the same number.
4567 + 0 = 4567
289 + 0 = 289
6550 + 0 = 6550
Adding 1 to a number gives the next number.
899 + 1 = 900
