since 2004 – one chapter in the Social Welfere act about integration of refugees

since 2008 – new status – subsidiary protection, the right to take part in individual integration programmes (like refugees)

After joining the European Union (01.05.2004) – European funds-European Social Fund-EQUAL-European Refugee Fund-European Integration Fund

Ministry of Labour and Social Policy – since September 2004 responsible for integration of immigrants as a co-ordinator

• Ministry of Interior and Administration noticed that there is a need to prepare a strategic document covering all aspects of migration (2010)

• The document was created by the Interdepartmental Team for Migration by the beginning of 2011

• Adopted in the middle of 2011, not by the Chamber of Ministers yet (should be adopted very soon)

• Complex document, two chapters apply directly to the integration: one to the integration of immigrants beneficiers of international protection, the other one to the integration of other immigrants

- Experience gained during the implementation of European Integration Fund as the main factor determining records in the document concerning the integration of other immigrants

• Working Group on the integration of foreigners by the Interdepartmental Team for Migration – consists of experts from ministries (permanent members) and experts from ngos, international organisations, local and regional authorities, researchers (invited members)

• 7 subgroups- Housing- Employment- Language education, cultural orientation and education of children- Preintegration and transition from preintegration to the integration - Assumptions, solutions and building of integration system for the

„spontaneous” immigrants- Activities targeting receiving society and building intercultural dialogue- Monitoring and eveluating the integration actions

Sources of inspiration in developing the strategy:-Questionnaire sent out to 136 stakeholders regarding the shape of the future Polish integration policy – answers are being elaborated now-Provisions contained in the document „The migration policy in Poland – current state of play and further actions”-Best practices developed during the implementation of the projects financed and co-financed by European funds-Research about the eveluation of individual integration programmes for foreigners granted international protection-Other research on integration needs, social attitudes etc.-Handbooks on integration-European Integration Modules

The goal – completion of the document by the end of 2012
