SSO Student Staff Expectations
Stick to your schedule!
Be present and on time to all events and training sessions! Remember, “Early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable.”
Cell phones should be utilized only when appropriate!
Be Flexible. Things might change unexpectedly. Just “Go with the flow.”
Be engaged in the presentations, and ask questions if you don’t understand something.
Be prepared to take notes. Take your binders, pens, pencils, etc.
Some questions may be hall specific, or related to your hall directors expectations, so be sure to write those down and ask during in-hall time.
Respect each other. Each member of the team will learn at a differently.
SSO Student Staff Expectations (Cont.)
First-Year RAs and Returning RAs all have valuable experiences to share and learn from. While we want you to learn from each other, not everyone has all the answers. That’s why we’re here to learn together!
Read the manual on your own time, and become familiar with it.
Dress comfortably—but not too comfortably. It is not acceptable to wear pajamas and NOBODY wants to see your skin!
Take care of yourself! Make time to eat, sleep, shower, etc.
Do NOT fall asleep in sessions. We know days can get long and tiring, but if you feel your eyes closing, doodle, play with play dough, etc.
Get to know and start building relationships with your peers and directors, as well as other student staff members and supervisors.
SSO Returning Staff Expectations
Be a leader and a role model to new staff. Help them when they come to you for guidance.
Take initiative. You are expected to be the first to volunteer for tasks that no one else wants to do! You have to role model behavior that shows that every task is important.
Have a positive attitude!
Try new things this year. This is a new year and you will have new experiences. Stretch yourself and expand your limits.
Become better at something that you fear or don’t think you are good at.
Use your position as a way to develop yourself for your future career in life.
Be a team player… This is not RA Idol!
If you don’t know something, ask and encourage others to do the same
