Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Caregivers, Eagle Tag Gala Day Last week we had a number of students participating in the regional Eagle Tag Gala Day. While the students were very successful the most pleasing aspect from my point of view was the reports from Mr Rosconi and Mr Waters about how RESPONSIBLE and RESPECTFUL our students were on the day. The students were a credit to their parents and themselves. I would also like to thank Mr Rosconi, Mrs Reeks and Mr Waters for giving up their time to coach the teams. P&C meeting The P&C Annual General Meeting is tomorrow night, Tuesday 20 November, at 7pm in the staffroom. I look forward to seeing you there.
Reminder This Week
Year 5 First Aid & Year 6 CPR – Permission Notes & Payment by Tuesday 20th November please.
Spellathon Congratulations to everyone involved in the Spellathon. Over $8 000 was raised. This money will be directed to support a number of programs throughout the school. I would like to thank Miss Coulson for her superb organisation of this event. Tail gating I would like to remind parents that there is no driveway access in the morning for parents. Morning access is for staff personnel only. Your support is appreciated.
Holiday planning Holiday camps are a great way for kids—7-12 years or 13 and over—to have an adventure and make new friends in a supervised environment. Packages include accommodation, activities and meals. Bookings are now open at camps across NSW. Find out more about the camps by visiting - http://www.dsr.nsw.gov.au/kidscamps/ Have you seen? Want to see what happened at the Year 6 Fun Day? Are you interested in having your child join the School Band and want to see the opportunities enjoyed by the current Band members? If you answered “yes” to either question then visit our website at http://www.elanorahts-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/ Not only will you find the answers to your questions but you can also find out more about the P&C, our school programs, previous newsletters and upcoming events. Lost or misplaced a note? All notes that have been sent home can be found in the Notes section of our website. Until next time,
Bill Gillespie, Principal

BUSH REGENERATION
In order to give our new plants from planting day the best possible start, it is important that
we protect them from weed encroachment. Elanora Heights Public School P&C Bushcare
group will be doing some bush regeneration and they would love your help. The hours will
be 10am - 2pm on Thursdays the 6th and 13th of December. If you are interested in taking
part on either of these dates, please contact Emily on 0449 172 536.
Kind Regards,
Emily
Congratulations to all students who gained sponsors for our annual Spellathon.
This year approximately $8000 was raised from sponsorship money which will be
used to purchase literacy, numeracy, science and technology resources for our
classrooms.
The classes which raised the most sponsorship money were KC (Miss
Clydesdale) and 3N (Miss Johnson). These classes will be awarded a “pizza
party” later in the term for their excellent fundraising efforts.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this fundraising event.

Rehearsals, Stage Band and Senior Ensembles All Senior Band members will continue to rehearse together on Thursday afternoons from 3pm to 4 pm until the end of Term. Stage Band and Senior Ensembles will also continue until the end of term. New Band Students Years 2 and 3 students will attend a special performance by the Senior Band this Wednesday during school time and some students will have the opportunity to try an instrument. Every Year 2 and 3 child will take home a form for completion by interested parents for an assessment that is planned for Monday, 3 December, during school time. If your child did not bring a form home and you wish to be considered for the Beginners program next year please email tim_cowdery@iprimus.com.au with your child’s first name, last name, class and 3 instruments of choice in their preferred order. Senior Band - Warriewood Brook Performance If not already done so, please email me at the email address above if your child is performing this Saturday. Guitar This week we bring Part 2 of 3 part series explaining a little about the guitar program. Teaching Method Jose and Cameron teach using the Berklee Press Guitar Method Book 1 by William Leavitt. This teaches children to read music. In preparation for this they usually spend most of the first year with students ensuring that they are physically capable of playing individual notes with a plectrum. They work initially on making sure that children have technical proficiency. This involves exercises such as learning the Chromatic scale, C Major Scale, and also teach the chord scale in C Major. To keep kids interested while they are becoming proficient at holding the guitar and moving their fingers on the fret board, they work with a few songs that will allow them to apply their scales and chords. Doe a Dear from the sound of music, Minor Swing [A song that uses only one chord shape], Hallelujah [Uses and explains the chord scale in C Major]. At the same time we work on note recognition using a stave on the white board. This is all designed as a preparation for the reading exercises in the Berklee Press Publication. At NNPS, the students who started two years ago are now reading proficiently.

2013 Swimming Carnival
Early next year our swimming carnival will be held
on Tuesday 5th February at the Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Swim Centre in Manly.
This carnival is for students in Years 3-6 and any Year 2 students who will be
turning 8 years old in 2013 and are able to swim 50 metres unaided.
For next year’s carnival, time restraints have been placed on the swimming
centre and consequently the allocated time for our swimming carnival has been
reduced to approximately 3 hours (We had been allocated 4 hours in previous
years). The 2013 carnival will be held from 11:40am – 2:45pm.
This reduced time means that our organisation and running of the carnival for
2013 will change.
These changes are as follows…
Students must nominate which events they would like to enter by
completing a nomination form. For students wishing to enter their chosen
events, this form must be returned to their classroom teacher before
Friday 7th December.
Students cannot enter an event on the day of the carnival; however,
students can withdraw from an event on the day of the carnival.
There will be no finals. Place-getters and zone representatives will be
selected using the fastest times from the heats.
The nomination form was sent home to students on Monday of
week 5. If you need another note, spare notes can be found
at the school office or on-line on the school website.
Please ensure that when students are nominating for events,
they must be able to swim (unaided) the distance required
for each event.
To assist us with our planning of the day it would be
appreciated if all students could return the nomination form before Friday 7th
December.
We thank you for your understanding.
David Waters & Jonathan Rosconi

CANTEEN NEWS
Below is the roster for the next three weeks. We are still in need of helpers on a few days, if you are able to help out, please call on the number below or drop by. It would be much appreciated. Sadly, our much loved treasurer, Yvette, will be finishing up at the end of this year after three years’ service & we will be in need of a new treasurer for our Canteen Committee. Yvette is happy to discuss what is involved with anyone who may be interested. You can contact me on the phone number below or in the canteen to discuss further. We do strongly rely on our wonderful volunteers in order to operate the school’s canteen & couldn’t run without your help. We do appreciate you giving your precious time. Thanks, Wendy.
