OPENING DAY 2017:
This winter has certainly been the longest and coldest we’ve experienced for many years, so we are very lucky that our greens have held up so well - particularly for the start of the new season and our official Opening Day on Saturday, Sept. 9
th ......just a pity the weather
didn’t “hold up” too !... and what a cold and damp one! Nevertheless, it didn’t deter a good crowd of bowlers from coming along in good spirits determined to make a great day of it. To kick things off, Shirley and Laurie Etherton - two of of our great club members and bowlers - did the honours by delivering the first jack and bowl of the season. We also gave a warm welcome to Adam Bloem from Elders Real Estate Bairnsdale - sponsors for the day - who later made the presentations to the Opening Day game winners. In fact, the weather held just long enough for our bowlers to complete their two games, followed by lunch, and then the presentations. First up: the overall winners of the August 2 x Bowl Triples, were announced, with Ladies’ President, Val Hardy, standing in on behalf of August’s sponsor - Wood Street Floor Coverings - who were not able to be present on this occasion. Great to see Val back in action again too.

FROM YOUR PRESIDENTS:
Ladies’ Section - President Val Hardy: First of all, a very big thankyou to all those ladies who attended the pre-season, clubhouse clean-up working bee, completing so many tasks and helping get things spick and span. Also, to my Vice President, Joan Oliver, my thanks for handling Presidential duties in my absence, and I hope Joan has a thoroughly enjoyable and well deserved NT holiday.
Thank you to all members involved in making Opening Day a success. My congratulations to all prize winners on the day and to those winter players who played in all sorts of weather. The overall winner of the winter comp. is Shirley Etherton. Well done! The final of the Ladies’ Club Drawn Triples was played on Tuesday 19th September in very cold (and sometimes wet) conditions. A completely different day to the semi final ! However, the game was played in a friendly, but competitive spirit, with Marge Nathan, Sandy McDonald and Helen Seabourne forging ahead in the last few ends. Their competitors were Pam McCloy, Mary Andrews and Faye Bryan, who battled to the end. Congratulations to the winners and runners-up and all the ladies who played in the competition. The midweek Pennant Practice against Bairnsdale was played on a sunny, warm Monday with Paynesville winning after a hard fought, but friendly game. Our "Girls Night In" is on Wednesday, October 4th at 6.30p.m. Names of those attending should be put on the sheet outside the clubhouse and indicate what food you will bring and how many of your friends. This event raises money for Breast Cancer. Entry is by donation at the door and we would welcome any donations from the male members of the Club. A fun night ... be there! Thank you to those members involved with the new notice boards in the Ladies Room, a job well done. Entries for club and State events are on the Notice Board and I encourage ALL players to enter. The experience gained by playing in these games will improve your play and approach to the game in the future.
..... Cheers, President Val

GREENS REPORT: The Founders’ Green growth is now
evident and rolling well, but it will need a groom soon. The Anderson growth is very strong and also rolling well. The Members’ is coming out of dormancy. However, Dollar spots are showing signs of growth. All greens have been fertilized twice and are now being cut 3 times each week by Trevor. Darren has indicated that he will give the Anderson a light top dress early October and this will mean the green will be out of service for a short time. ...... David Seaborne,
Greens Mgr.
A very big welcome to new full members: Anthony Shortland, Steven Tanner and
Gary Hopman ....and social member: Garry Gardner. Great to have you on-board !
Mid-week Pennant Practice:
Official practice Mondays at 1 pm.
Saturday Pennant Practice:
Every Tuesday at 4 pm. Club Equipment on Loan: Ken Perkins has been updating the equipment loan register, and has discovered that several members who have borrowed bowls or bowling arms over the past few years, either may not have yet returned them, or not had them signed in and marked off the register when the equipment was returned. So, if any of you are currently holding club equipment as mentioned, please advise Ken, or one of our coaches (Ivan Thompson, David McGrath, Calvin Connell) that you are still in possession of it, and return it asap if no longer required. Thank you.
.
LADIES DRAWN TRIPLES :

Football and the Blonde : A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench. After the game, he asked her how she liked it. "Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents." Dumbfounded, her boyfriend asked, "What do you mean?" "Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was... 'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!' I'm like...Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!!!!"
