A modifier is a word or group of words that describes or adds information about another word. A modifier should appear as close as possible to the word it modifies.

Misplaced Modifiers

A modifier is misplaced when it appears in the wrong place in the sentence. Either it seems to modify a word other than the one the writer intended, or there’s more than one word it could modify and the reader can’t tell which one.
