NSS NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

‘’Not me ,but you’’Personaliy development of students through community service‘Education through community service’

introduction The national service scheme(NSS) is an Indian government-

sponsar public service program conducted by the Department of youth Affairs and sports of the Government of India. ‘’DUAS’’ Popularly know as NSS, the scheme was lunched in Gandhi ji’s Centenary year, 1969. Aimed at developing student’s personality through community service, NSS is a volounatry association of young people in college, Universities and at SECONDARY level working for a campus-community linkage. The conditional principal of NSS programme that it is organized by the student and teachers through their combined perticipation in community in the task get a sense of innolment in the tasks of National building.

The symbol for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release. It signifies the movement in life across time and space, the symbol thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change. The eight bars in the wheel represent the 24 hours of a day. The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

Needs of NSS After the independence the university grands commission

headed by s.radhakrishnan recommended the introduction of volountary national service in a academic institutions. This idea was again considerd by the control advisery board of education at its meeting In january 1950 after the examining and the experience of the board of recommended that the students and teacher should devote time to voluntery manual work. In first five year plan in adopted by govt. 1952 need for the social service by the indian students for one year was tressed. In 1958 Jawaharlal nehru in a letter to the chief minister considerd idea of social service as a pre-requisting of graduation . He directed ministry of education to formulate a suitable scheme for the introduction to nation service into academic institute.

Motto of NSS

‘’ Not me but You’’.This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person's point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society on the whole. Therefore it should be the aims of the NSS to demonstrate this motto in its day-to-day programmes.

Aim of NSS

The program aim to include social welfare in statements and provide service without bias NSS persons. The NSS is part of our academic, social and personal life as it is the third dimension of education. It allows the students to actively contribute their services for the cause of community and the nation, thus helping them develop their personality. Service and attain the traits of a leader of the nation. As such,the NSS is the right platform, where the student- youth of the nation may get to involve with real-life social activities, and thereby become responsible citizen of India.

FOR GETTING JOB- English is essential for getting good job and better salaries and multinational business organization and many international corporations ask for people who have a good working knowledge of english. Even job advertisements in local market also require englishknowing people. Pepole who go abroad for work also need to know english and speak in english. English is need for a variety of jobs as like Air Hostress, Pilot, Travel Guide, Media manager etc.

FOR INTERATIONAL RELATION - Spoken English is important for maintaining international relations and communications. It is the language of diplomacy. International politics and meeting and conferences.

FOR INFORMATION- In today’s world of information supperhighway. Spoken English is essential for getting easy access to any information. Almost any information is available is english. English is the language of information technology and internet.

IN MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT- Spoken english is important for access to world media and intertainment. Satellite channel around of the world telecast news and views in english. Sports are telecast live and their commentaries are avialabe in english.

CONCLUSION

THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH CAN NOT BEDENIED. KNOWING ENGLISH IS LIKE HAVING AN INTERNATIONAL VISA. ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD ENGLISH IS USEFUL AND HELPFUL. SO LEARNING ENGLISH AND SPOKEN ENGLISH IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR OUR LIFE…………
