I thought I would put this note in here to explain what 'Subject to Confirmation' (STC) means to those who don't know. There are only 3 categories with registration: provisional, subject to confirmation, and fully registered. This has been the case for many years, and continues to be so even with the new Vulnerable Children's Act. For many of us who are in the STC category, this simply means that because we are not in a permanent-full time

position we have not been formally appraised recently. We are still able to do everything we did before (both as a teacher and as a principal), and are classed as experienced teachers. Yes, we still get vetted with the police when we renew our registration just like every other teacher in NZ, despite some people thinking otherwise. Despite the STC label, which I admit is an uncomplimentary title to be given to experienced teachers, we are

teachers who are still bound by the same rules and the same checks that apply to any fully registered teacher.
