It was on this day in British history, 26 November 1922, that Howard Carter and the Earl of Carnarvon became the first men to see inside the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Howard Carter, a British Egyptologist, had discovered the first step leading to the tomb’s entrance on 4 November, and worked feverishly to reveal the tomb’s entrance by 26 November. Interesting is the fact that Lord Carnarvon died within 6 months of being among the first to enter the tomb. Was there a curse? The debate still goes on…
