“Loopt users can opt in to create a customized public profile and browse profiles of others near their physical space. If they want to engage a fellow Loopt-er they see on the map near them, they can anonymously email that person, kind of like posting a Craigslist Missed Connection in real time.” Trendcentral

Sampling Salons: Subscription-based sampling as market research

Methodology For a two-week period, we measured viewed-seconds for a sample of 188,055 videos, totaling 22,724,606 streams, on six top video sites (due to partnership limitations, we cannot disclose which sites). Limitations of this approach include the fact that we are only studying short-form content (full television episodes being streamed on sites like Hulu were not included), and that, because our code is not yet in their player, YouTube was not included (although many of the videos in the sample mirror identical videos on YouTube).

How Much of a Typical Video Online Is Actually Watched? Most videos steadily lose viewers once "play" is clicked, with an average 10.39% of viewers clicking away after ten seconds and

53.56% leaving after one minute. Tubemogul

Collective intelligence: “Reality Mining”

“Privacy may turn out to have become an anomaly.” Thomas W. Malone, Director

MIT Center for Collective Intelligence

Did he really just say that?

"If the BBC doesn't want the cynicism to grow, it should be a bit more careful about blurring the boundary between twittering and serious reporting." Tom

The study by Bradley University, which began in 2005 and is still being analyzed, was conducted using anonymous questionnaires collected from 14,000 people in 48 countries.

Sociosexuality

“Historically we have repressed women’s short-term mating and there are all sorts of double standards out there where men’s short-term mating was sort of acceptable but women’s wasn’t,”

David Schmitt, Professor of Psychology, Bradley University
