Door #3 Father’s love

John 1:1-5John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

John 1:9-11John 1:9-11

The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

He came to that which was his own, but

his own did not receive him.

John 1:12John 1:12

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to

become children of God

We are in the process of becoming the Father’s sons and daughters!

John 1:13John 1:13

--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

The Journey of discovering Father’’s unique,

individual destiny

John 1:14John 1:14

So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.

We have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. New Living

"The Word did not become a philosophy, a theory, or a concept to be discussed, debated or pondered.

But the Word became a Person to be passionately followed, enjoyed, and loved!"

One mark of the Spirit-filled Christian is his desire to relate his life to the purpose of his heavenly Father for this hour in history.

There is an awareness of divine destiny which constrains us to be about our Father's business.

Psalms 23:5Psalms 23:5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;my cup overflows. (New International Version)

The Father’s Table

The Father’s Table

Our ability to receive is directly proportional to our perception of the Father’s love, which determines our ability to receive at His table!

Bozeman Summer Job Project

Our ability to receive is directly proportional to our perception of the Father’s love, which determines our ability to receive at His table!

Wrong Concepts of the Father

No one interacts with God as he really is, we interact with the concept we have of Him

Which Wrong Concept Do You Identify With?

1- Cosmic Killjoy or Grand Party Pooper2- Santa Claus:

God Will Bless Only When I’m Good3- Disinterested, Detached Father Time4- Perfectionist or Fault Finder5- Angry Judge6- Control Freak or Divine Inquisitor7- Religious

Jesus was saturated with His Father's love. He had intimacy by experience with the Father in such a way that he was in his Father's presence and heard his Father's words. This is what enabled him to do the Father's works. Cultivating friendship and intimacy with the Father is the key to our growth as sons and daughters.

John 16:23-24John 16:23-24

In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.

Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.

John 16:25-27John 16:25-27

Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father.

In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.

No, the Father himself loves you…

Jesus walked in the Father's love--so can you! Out of demonstrated affectionate relationship with the Father, we enter into an intimacy where we feel His touch, know his presence and become secure in His love.

In that intimacy, we can hear the Father's voice and receive His directions. All of our communication with God is to flow out of a continual experience of the Father's phileo love for us.

Romans 8:14Romans 8:14

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (NASU)

Sonship is being led by the Spirit!

Satan knows that the Father's love is foundational, because the Kingdom can't come unless sons and daughters see and hear what Father is doing.

The Kingdom won't come until the sons of God are revealed.

You can't function as a son/daughter without knowing the Father's love, and Satan wages war against us to hinder our receiving His love, extending over many generations.

Satan exploits our past hurts to fulfill his demonic script for us and sabotage Father’s unspeakably wonderful planned destiny.

Romans 8:15Romans 8:15

For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" (NASU)(NASU)

We are placed before our new Father in heaven. He recognizes us! HE places His love on us! You are aware that you are in His presence.

Have you experienced the spirit of adoption?

Romans 8:15Romans 8:15

For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" (NASU)(NASU)

Romans 8:15bRomans 8:15b

And by Him we cry out, "Abba! Father!"

Abba = Daddy

Romans 8:16Romans 8:16

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God. (NASU)

The Spirit of Adoption Neutralizes Shame

You Might Have Shame If:

I am afraid to let my true self be known to others

You Might Have Shame If:

I feel inadequate

You Might Have Shame If:

I seldom feel as if I am living up to what is expected of me

You Might Have Shame If:

When I look inside myself I seldom feel any joy at who I am

You Might Have Shame If:

I define myself by my past failures

You Might Have Shame If:

I feel inferior to the really good people I know

You Might Have Shame If:

I am not worthy of love; why would anyone value me?

Because many of our earthly families and friends have let us down, we desperately need to experience being a child of the Father, receiving His unconditional love which is what we call the spirit of adoption.

Matthew 18:4

Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Luke 11:-11-13Luke 11:-11-13

"You Fathers -- if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not!

If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him." (New Living)

The perception of our heavenly father keys off of our perception of our earthly father. It is the first lens through which we see God. Distortions of our perception of the heavenly father, due to the flaws sin has produced in earthly fathers create the most prominent barriers to receiving the Father's love.

Your Family Evaluation

Take a new look at your parents. When young, we idolize our parents and want them to be perfect and all-powerful. We all too soon realize they aren't. Face the worst in your parents, see their faults and forgive them. This will open the door to seeing Father God as He truly is.

Bondage of Bitterness or The Freedom of Forgiveness

Matthew 18:21Matthew 18:21

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?"

Matthew 18:22-24Matthew 18:22-24

Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. 23 "Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him.

Matthew 18:25Matthew 18:25

25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

Matthew 18:26-27Matthew 18:26-27

"The servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.'

27 The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.

Matthew 18:28Matthew 18:28

"But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!' he demanded.

Matthew 18:29-30Matthew 18:29-30

"His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.'

30 "But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt.

Matthew 18:31-32Matthew 18:31-32

When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened. 32 "Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.

Matthew 18:33-34Matthew 18:33-34

Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?'

34 In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

Matthew 18:35Matthew 18:35

"This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

Father forgive them…

THE PRAYER OF FORGIVENESS

"Dear Heavenly Father. I thank you for the riches of your kindness, forbearance and patience; knowing that your kindness has led me to repentance. I confess that I have not extended that same patience and kindness toward others who have offended me. But instead, I have harbored bitterness and resentment. I pray that during this time of self examination you would bring to my mind those people that I have not forgiven in order that I may do so. I ask this in the Precious Name of Jesus. Amen."
