Born in Oakland California, 1968, Matt Rogers lives and paints in Saint Helena, California. A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, he works in various media including painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking.
In Rogers’ current Horse series, his unique perspective of the intense kinetic energy and agility displayed by riders and their horses on the polo field, is the result of several years of observation, drawing and painting. Rogers’ love of exploring these forces through painting began when a long time friend, and highly rated polo player, commissioned a piece from him. What followed since has been years of inspired painting. Rogers continues translating these moments of intense action onto the canvas with perceptible feeling.
