MARIE-ELISE LLAGAS

Looking at the impact that 'Fast Fashion' is having across the de-sign landscape. I'm fas-cinated with the pace in which we desire a change in our appear-ance through dress. Transient,Transformative,Transitional I feel per-fectly describes what I'm exploring. I want to peal, layer and transform pieces. It will be transient, transformative, transi-tional. Pure Fashion. As William Morris once said "nothing useless can be truly beautiful"

Reveal conceal is the concept be-hind my final master’s collection, which was born through examining the importance of the human silhou-ette. Exploration of shape in context to the body in contemporary times has always played a strong role in my work. I wanted to strip back and refine my designs to their simplest and most powerful visual forms. By using luxury fabrics versus sports-wear materials I aim to push forward the boundaries of fashion creation. I question how we can contempo-rize un-conventional materials into traditional design-led methods. My exploration of materiality leads to the use of acrylic in the collection, this becoming a key element applied to create blocking, concealing and highlighting areas of the body.

SHE IS MAGPIECollection 2010

She is a collector. A hoarder. An opportunist with an insatiable impulse to collect, she gathers material and objects to build her “nest” her look which attract others and draws you in. Like the Magpie itself she has an intensely competitive and social nature. Often seen in a pack or community. Magpies are eclectic and able to draw on a variety of resources to assist them in their pursuits, then exhibiting themselves in all there hunter gatherer beauty for all to see.

Blurred and unidentified, these colours are a product of imagination and not a little dreaming. Neutral and softly natural with a hint of cool. Even if the shade has cool overtones the touch is soft. We have the idea of nesting in a feather light cocoon. Grey and lavender are the prime influences in this essentially natural palette. It is sophisticated and chic but also with a new style edge. These are creative naturals.

DISTORTION OF LIGHTDigital draping

DISTORTION OF LIGHTDigital draping

Digital draping is a new form of pattern cutting and body draping that uses light and projections to determine cut, texture, pattern, integration and future silhouette. This process was developed by Nancy Tilbury, Clive van Heerden and their colleagues during the wearable technologies projects at Philips De-sign in the late 1990s. By using a full-size or handheld projector, the designer places graphical or textural elements (of their choice) onto the body of a fit model, dancer or stand to develop dynamic shape and form.
