GET INVOLVED IN YOUR
MUSIC FESTIVAL!
BIG MACARTHUR
WEEKEND
Macarthur’s Music in the Vines Committee is busy pre-
paring all the behind the scenes work to ensure the smooth
running of the second music festival on 4th March 2017.
It is pleasing to see enthusiasm from local groups becom-
ing involved in this year’s event. The Macarthur Primary
School will once again be running the BBQ and the
Macarthur Golf Club will supply the buggies to provide
transport from the carpark for those who need it. The
Macarthur Men’s Shed will be selling hot roast rolls, add-
ing to an expanding range of food options on the day.
A new addition to the Festival also include quality craft stalls. We have also selected 4 winners as part of our
Emerging talent competition and currently confirming their attendance as part of the event. Please follow the
website/Facebook page if you would like more information on this.
Get the word out, and let your friends know about this event. Saturday 4th March. Gates open at 10am and
close at 11pm. We live in a beautiful town, so let’s promote it!
We are still looking for more sponsors, so please give this some consideration, as it is essential for the
running of such an event and would be very much appreciated.
A GREAT Big thankyou to our sponsors so far: Parfrey Plumbing, Moyne Shire, Suffoir Vineyard,
ACE Radio, Star Printing, Macarthur Pub, JHP Security, Macarthur Park Country Cottages, RB Sellars, Dan
Tehan MP, Kerr & Co, Macarthur Rural Supplies, Hammonds Paints, Melville Orton & Lewis, Charles

The spring months this year with rain-fall so late into the year, has resulted
in excessive grass growth. This has created a lot of issues for Council, namely:
The grass being so long ultimately slows our mowers down and therefore the rotation to get to each of the townships has been taking longer each time Some areas within some of our townships have been too wet when the mowers are in the town and have therefore not been mowed until the next rotation Council endeavours to get to each of our town-ships between 2 to 3 weeks. Unfortunately, in some instances this got out to 3 to 4 weeks with the significant growth. Most of the areas are now back in control and we appreciate the understand-ing and patience from our communities during this time.

Macarthur Cemetery Trust
Our Cemetery enjoys complimentary re-
marks from the community and visitors,
whether for funerals, engaged in family
history research or just passing through.
Funeral directors too have praised the state
of our grounds and facilities. Generous
donations are also made from time to time
to aid the Board in its work.
Many challenges confront small cemetery
trustee boards, mainly of a financial na-ture, such as cost and maintenance of
equipment, mowers, fuel, weed control and other expenses. Fortunately ‘though, as all work is done on a voluntary basis, no
wages or associated costs are incurred. It
should be mentioned here that community
volunteers to help with these works will always be welcomed; also, that any such
volunteers are covered under our Personal Accident Insurance policy in the event of injury whilst working at the Cemetery.
The names of all other members of the Board are:
Tom Kelly Chairman Bernie Warren Hon. Sec/Treas
Darryl Kelley Board Alan Bunworth Board Malcolm Sharrock Board
Maurice Sullivan Board George Hill Board Bernie Warren

Macarthur Swimming Pool
The pool committee would like to wish the com-
munity a Happy New Year. You may have noticed
the pool having 2 life guards rostered on during open-
ing hours, well this has come about due to the
YMCA’s new policy ‘Safeguarding Children and Peo-
ple’. Therefore we would also like to welcome Ruby
Hill and Temika Gay to the Life guarding staff.
The committee would like to congratulate the Mor-
gan Family for winning the amount of their member-
ship back. Every year the committee hold a member-
ship drive and by purchasing your membership before
Christmas you go into a draw to win the amount of
your membership. If you haven’t bought a member-
ship there is still time to do so.
The pool has just finished 2 weeks of VicSwim
which was well utilized with 28 children participating.
It has been reported that we have had visitors from
not just Macarthur but from other areas such as
Hawkesdale, Koroit, Heywood and Hamilton and this
is due to our great facilities eg slide and the hospitali-
ty from the community and staff. We are currently
doing a lap challenge to see if anyone can swim to
either Hamilton (1,480 laps) or Warrnambool (2,840
laps) and there is still time to join in.
The pool committee would like to thank the com-
munity for their generous donations which have as-
sisted in the purchases of inflatables and large pool
mats.
We hope the school has good weather for their up-
coming swimming lessons and sports day.
Keep an eye out for other future events either on
our Facebook page or at the pool.

MACARTHUR & DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY Inc.
END OF YEAR BREAKUP – 2016
Twenty four Society members and partners from Macarthur & Port Fairy travelled by bus and car to the end of year gathering at
Kirkstall Hotel for a hearty lunch, then to St. Brigid’s Church, Crossley on Sunday
11th December. On arrival at “St. B’s”, a very interesting
and informative tour took place in which the efforts of local community to save the marvelous old church and associated
structures were described, together with a detailed account of the history of the com-
plex as well as how it continues to serve the local community to this day.
This was followed by another most interest-
ing stop-off at Koroit to inspect and appre-
ciate the Koroit Historical Society’s rooms and collection in the old School House,
followed by a most enjoyable and welcome afternoon tea.
All those in attendance had a great day, and look forward to further such excur-sions in future, gaining additional ideas
about how best to improve and display our own growing collection of memorabilia in
the Court House.
The next meeting of the Historical Society
is tentatively planned for Thursday 16th
February so please keep this date free. The
secretary will contact members directly if
the date has to be changed.

Members of the Macarthur Lions Club hope everyone
had a great Christmas and look forward to a fabulous
2017.
We would like to congratulate Joe Mooney on being
presented an Alan J Holding award from District Gov-
ernor Terry Heazlewood for his community work. Con-
gratulations Joe and keep up the good work.
Our club is starting to get busy with Australia Day

letter goes to print). We are again catering for 2 days at
the Macarthur camp draft as well as helping at the Port
Fairy Folk Festival for 4 days, which we thank people
outside of Lions for their continued help and support
for these two big events.
Our members are attending and catering for our Lion’s
district cabinet meeting to be held in Macarthur at the
beginning of February.
Coins for Kids will once again be held with the help of
Macarthur Primary school children, more info when we
have dates organized. Challenge Cancer Kids Hamilton
camp will again be held during the April school holi-
days: our club hosts the group of kids for a day.
Our club has again given financial help to two families
in need in the last few months, we all hope that this has
been helpful to the families.
