LOCAL NEWS.A.MU8KMJSNTS TO-NIGHT.

Qbovbb's Thratbb..The now play, ««Autera Floyd," was performed last night beforea fine audience, wno were so delighted with i tthat the managemeat, contrary to original in¬tention. have concluded to repeat it this even¬ing. This is, however, positively the last time.Jflrs. Drew and her.company do not proposeremaining after to-morrow night.Canterbury..Annetta Gallettl will ap¬

pear to-night in the heantifnl ballet, << La Maja«ie Seville," and will be supported by Szollosyand the Court of Beauty, which has everproven so attractive a feature of CanterburyHall. Besides Galletti will appear in some ofher favorite dances. To-morrow afternoon amatinee for ladies and children.Swiss Bell Rinokbs..The Peak Family

will Five but two more per lormaneet. in thiscity, this and to-morrow evening. There ha3been no entertainment offered our citizens thisw inter that has been more interesting thantnese, and that they have been appreciated byold ami yonng, is evidenced by the tine housesnightly in attendance.Vakiktiks..Dances, songs, ballads, panto¬

mimes, minstrel selections, Ac., all of au enter¬taining order, are nightly offered the habitues<,f this resort, which is now one ol the mostpopular in the citv. Ada Tesman, Bud worth,Watkins, the Forrest sisters, and other fineperformers appear. The Russia* War asd Sterboptican..

These two exhibitions, either of which wouldafford an ample entertainment, remain on ex¬hibition at Odd Fellows' Hall, Seventh stree*,lor a few nights longer. The sieges, battles, and incidents connected with the Crimean warare admirably portraed.St. Ass's Infant Asylum..Among the

many objects of charity which claim the atten¬tion of the benevolent, there is not one wouldl>e considered more worthy of liberal donationsthan an infant asylum, if the objects of theinstitution were properly understood. Thereone in this city which certainly recommendsitself to the kind and benevolent. We refer toSt. Ann's, which is located immediately westof the "I Circle." This institntlon was organized

a year or two ago, but received a charter trorathe Congress ol the United States only inMarch last.Although under the care of the Sisters ofCharity, it is not at all sectarian, but infants of

parents of all denominations are taken in andcared lor. They have at present some thirty-two helpless infants, all under the age of fiveyears; the object being only to care for childrenof this age: as after that, if not adopted by somerespectable parties, they are trasferred ta otherinstitutions. The^e children are mostly found¬lings, or children of abandoned and depravedparents, who are rescued by the Sisters ofCharity from the miseries and degradations ofbin!ul homes, and reared in a proper manner.A visit to the institution, and an inspection oft-i\e nursery, cannot be made but with profit, mid visitors would at once fully realize the(Treat necessityof the existence of such an institution. The children are all happy, contented, neatly dressed and cleanly, and the little cotson which they repose are faultless. In passingthrough the nursery, the Sisters make the visitvery interesting by relating certain circum¬stances connected with the inmates. In onecot may be found two tiny specimens of hu¬manity, one a child left upon a door-step, in apelting rain storm, a few days ago. and anothera child whose mother died' in giving it birth. Here will be pointed out the child of a soldier, whose mother cannot or will not support it,and there one upon whose head will be foundly.arks evidencing the brutal treatment to whichit had been subjected by drnnken or unnaturalparents. There is some sad tale connected withall. and the mute eloquence of the little oneslying there so helpless and feeble would godirectly to the heart of all, and make a favor¬able impression. The institution depends entirely for support"

upon charity and the sale of such articles asthe ever diligent hands of the Sisters makeThere is a tlebt of $20,000 hanging Over thisasylum, and the benevolent are appealed to toaid in clearing it off. Not only are the physicalwants supplied, but the moral wants are prop¬erly cared for. The visiting days are Mondaysand Thursdays, and all whe feel an interest inthe work should attend and see its operation aior themselves.
