HISTORY OF OUR TOWNThe population of our city, Douala, is close to 3,ooo,ooo. The town is located on the banks of the Wouri River in the Littoral Region. Douala is not an ancient city.

SOME ASPECTS OF CAMEROON CULTURE.

In the North West Region, you don’t greet a chief with your hands.

In the North, girls are engaged very

early for marriage; as early as 14 years

old. Ladies cover their faces when

moving about

A man can get married to many wives. Some chiefs in the North West and West Regions have about 30 wives.

In the West Region, 10 years after burial, the skull of a dead person is dug and reburied inside a room.

FOOTBALL! OUR CULTURAL SPIRIT Cameroon is a sports-loving country. Our spirit of sports is seen in Douala where we have many sports facilities. There are football stadia, basketball, handball, volleyball fields. There are also gym centers. Last year, our school

won the national volleyball championship. If you enter Douala early on Sunday morning, you will see many people doing sports, no matter the neighborhood. Cameroon is renowned in football. Africa has more places in the world

cup today, thanks to the Cameroon National Football Team, the Indomitable Lions and Milla Rogers, who is retired. Now, we have another famous football star, Samuel Eto’o Fils, who grew up in Douala. He is the captain of

our national team and will lead Cameroon to the world cup in South Africa in June.

CONCLUSIONThe culture of Cameroon is very diverse and varied. As you move from one tribe or Region to another, you meet different aspects of our culture. You can see it in the way people dress, dance, sing and behave. All this is influenced by our tradition
