Networking for shy people

The job of every piece of communication is to

introduce your business to people who do not know it & to reinforce positive impressions

among those who do.

Especially on LinkedIN!

(There are only 1.3 million people in the state)

You live in a great small state

Why use LinkedIN?

05/02/2023 13

Your Rolodexes linked to other people’s Rolodexes

I can see yours without asking you

I can ask to see many more beyond that

Bonus points if you know what a Rolodex is—

Double points if you still own one

#1 way to make a strong profile

Include a photo

A decent, clear photo of your face. Does NOT have to be done by a professional, but MUST BE you looking professional

Change it rarely.

(Also no birthday hats, bridesmaids dresses, pretty flowers, spouses or BFF)

Use a professional pose, not “I’m dressed up and look good” shot.

You don’t exist

You are a criminal

You are boring and fuzzy

Interesting, clear, friendly

Interesting, clear, friendly

Logo? Not so much…faces are better

Know!

Know!

Know!

Know! Know! Know! Don’t Know!

Never under-estimate the value of your son-in-law’s sister

Some best practices..

Make your summary unique…

Best practices

HalvorsonNewMedia.com 52

Better is to ask for recommendations

REMEMBER YOUR GOALS(which may change over time)

1) Show people what you know and what you’re doing

2) Constantly build connections which may help you at some unknown

time in the future3) Think of “touchpoints” along the

way—be in contact with your connections

HalvorsonNewMedia.com 55

Company pages: They’re not for everyone 1) You have a fair number of

employees, and/or 2) You constantly need to recruit or

replace even your small number of employees and/or

3) Your fellow businesses are confused about what you do
