How do lakes, rivers and streams work?

Will the lakes, rivers and streams ever run out of water if we keep drinking it?How did they build the dam on Lake Karapiro?If the nature around streams grow better than anywhere else, why does this happen?How does the salt water and fresh water connect?Why do streams look so pure when they are surrounded by bush or mountains but when they come out into the open they look dirtier?Why does water keep on coming back?Why do some countries have cleaner lakes, rivers and streams than others?

Over time Rivers can form big Valleys. It starts off as a normal river or stream, and around the area is flat land. When the river flows it picks up big stones or small things and over time it cuts into the land and makes a big dip in the ground. It can make big tall banks. Then it becomes a big valley.
