Question of the Day

Arthur’s Purpose

Seeing Shapes

Artists start their pictures with simple shapes. A drawing of a tree might begin with a rectangle for the trunk and lots of small circles for the leaves. An artist might use a square for a house and a triangle for a roof.

What shape could you use to draw the sun? A circle, of course! What shapes could you use to draw a person? Be an artist and look for simple shapes in the world around you.

The next time you draw a picture, start with the basic shapes of the things you wants to show. Then add details using other shapes. You’ll be amazed at what you can do with simple shapes!
