"Sparkling Hours"The bell was lilacecl on the table ready

for a week of sparkling hours, brimfui oflively choruses, vivid Bible stories andinterastine handwork for nimble fini^crs.Onr Annual Daily Vacation Bible Schoolbetjan. Some fifty children canic fairlyflying through the gate, eager and ready.

Serious moments in the cool chapelcentred around the 9;()() to 9:30 a.m. hourwhen young hearts were challenged tofollow the invitation of the Christian life. This year's theme was, "Choo.sing betweeiitwo ways."

Just for a break from the teaeber-elassroutine, lively iranies and races wereplanned, and the mornings were gone before one could barely say, "Ji't-'k Robinson."

At the close of this exciting week, parentsand friends were invited to see a displavr.f colourful handwork and a programme ofBible work accomplished. It's D.V.B.S. forsimny Jamaica as well as for America!

"Mountain View"The boys of the Home enjoyed a visit

to the Mountain View church in September.Sitting quietly and dressed in their navyblue pants, white shirts and bow ties, theboys occupied the entire front bench. Theysang lustilv the well known songs, and thenas the programme progressed, it cametime for their part.

All of the boys recited scripture verses, the group sang two .songs, and Peter satiga solo. At the end, three year old Clivecaptured everyone's heart by reciting,"John 11:35, Jesus wept." The Mayor ofKingston, Mrs. Iris King, was the honouredyuest at the proijramme and she was happyto meet the bovs for the first time.

    "Eddie and the HenHouse"

I he sun slipped behind the nursery.scliool at the woodsy end of the Homelauds. Suddenly it was almost dark . . .darker than usual fV>r the boys to be gathering eggs. Andy hurried for the key only tofind that it had been mi.ssing since the daybefore.

Several boys gathered at the hen houseto decide the best thing to do. The eggsmust come out, they assured Mommy. Finally Eddie was elected to crawl throughthe door where the chickens go in and out.

Wide eyed with horror, yet slubl>onilytelling himself that he would not Ix; nameda coward, he knelt down, peered in, andmade a mad dive. Two things happened.Eddie began crying in the musty darknessand at the same lime, a dozen eggs cameflying through the hole, one after another,as Eddie faithfully carried out his mission.A .split second alter the last egg hit theground, Eddie sailed through the hole andne\er stopped until he reached the house!

"Birthdays are Fun"Ever\' bov in tlu- Home is remembered

Our oldt^st bov is Andy. He is eight yearsold and is yrowini: to be a greater joy toDaddy and Mommy all the time.

"Annual Meeting"The Members of the Home lielcl tht;ir

Amiiial meeting, Oclol)er 15. In spite of !ihurricane threat in the morning and occasional showers, thirty Members assembled.Annual reports were made from the Directors, Maniineinent Committee, and from theVolunteer Committee.

Mrs. Winnifred Hewitt, Chief Children'sOfficer of the Child Care and Protection,(Juveniles Authority) brought an informative and inspiring message, outlining thework of her department. She also spoke onthe value of Homes in Jamaica, mentioninghow the Jamaica Christian Boys' Honu- hadbeen under their watch-care for severalyears, since it is a government lic(msedHome. She commended the Home for diework being done and for the need it isfilling.

Minister Solomon Levy, chairman of theDirectors, acted as chairman of the meeting, with Mr. Douglas Fletcher replacinghim when he left for a conflictinti meeting. Mr. Fletcher brought a challengingclo.sing message to the Home Members fortlie future growth of the Home, remindingthem of the succe.ssful vear just passed, andthe opportunities ahead.

He announced that in the coming yearit is hoped that we will be able to builda chapel building for the Home and increase the number of boys, but that itwould take the same faith in God that allprogress in the past had taken.

Coloured slides of the Camp were shownand enjoyed by the members, some ofwhom were parents of campers.

"Mortgage Burning ? ?"The mortgage for the Home has now

been reduced to three thousand, sevenhundred pounds, ($10,360.00). This bringsus to a realization that "mortgage burning"is not far off. We would like to be able toset a date, but God does not let us seeinto the future.

In December we face another greatopportunity. Three years have passed andthe mortgage is due for renewal.

Please pray with us that we might makeanother large payment on December 31,and see ahead a mortgage burning in 1959.

The Apostle I'aul said that God is ableto "do exceedingly abundantly above allthat we ask or think."

    MORTGAGE BURNING IS POSSIBLEIN 1959!

'In Memory'Minna Levy, wife of C. K. Levy, and

one of our ardent workers for the Home, passed to her eternal rest on August 4.It was with sorrowful hearts that we received the news. The Levy family askedtheir friends to make a donation to theHome in memory of their wife and mother, rather than to send flowers.

Our hearts were deeply touched by thisgesture and we sincerely appreciate themany loving gifts that have c-ome in. Surelythey will do things for the boys that .shecan no longer do. Wo remember herlovingly.

"Tower Isle"Much of the writing of the Evangel in

September was done in the splendour ofthe tropically famous Tower Isle Hotel.Mr. D. C. Bardowcll. Manager of the Hoteland Member of the Home, invited us tospend a couple of days as his guests.

It is refreshing to get away from thepress of work and rest a bit. Wc appreciate his generous thoughtfulness and kindness toward us and the Home, and it reminds is again of the loving hospitalitythat Jamaicans have shown toward us andour adopted children.
