The Basics
Our device is simple yet effect. It utilizes physics in a complicated mechanical from to complete a simple yet entertaining task. We used a marble, toy truck, tubing and pipe.
The BeginningOur device can be described in
a few simple calculations. In order of action. Depicted in the
picture Torque(T=RF),
Rotational momentum(Iw)
, and Conservation
of energy(mgh=1/2Iw^2+1/2mv
^2)
The JumpThe next portion of
our machine involves projectile motion [(y-
yi)=(tan(a)(x-xi)-g/2vi^2(1+tan^2(a)
(xxi)^2], Conservation of
energy(mgh+1/2mv^2+1/2Iw^2=1/2mv^
2+1/2Iw^2) assuming the datum
to be at the bottom of the funnel.
The ChevroletOur next series of events begins when the marble collides with a “T” of PVC applying torque,(T=RF), allowing for tension in the rope to pull out a screw with a force,(F=MA), freeing the truck to accelerate down the ramp while conserving energy, (mgh=1/2mv^2+(1/2Iw^2)4).
Raising the Banner
To conclude our machine the toy truck will launch of the ramp, projectile motion, and collide with an upright board, conservation of momentum (m1v1=m1v1+m2v2+m3v3). This will cause the balanced mass center of mass[(ax(T)-ax(H)/(a(T)-a(H),(ay(T)-ay(H)/(a(T)-a(H))]. This inelastic collision allows the weight to fall to the ground while raising the flag with use of a pulley. (conservation of energy)
Hardships
During our construction and design process the worst problem we encountered was inability to find necessary parts resulting in a change of device design. A smaller obstacle was aligning parts to provide fluid function. Overall it was a very successful operation.
