Regional Chapter conducted 2nd National Conference on emerging trends in Health Technology
Assessment and Clinical Data Management – A Global scenario on 2nd March 2019.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr.G. Subba Rao , Principal, Guntur Medical College, Guntur,
Dr. S. Kumaravelu, Major General (Retd.), Senior consultant Neurologist, Ramesh Hospitals, Guntur,
Vara prasad Nagidi, Founder and CEO, Arete IT Services, Vijayawada, Dr. Devarshi Bhattacharaya,
Assistat Director, Kalam Institute of Health Technology, Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone , A.P. ,
Harikrishna Chand, Senior Clinical Data Analyst ( Primary CDA), Hyderabad, Sandeep Kumar,
Associate Manager, IQVIA, Bangalore. Sri. Y. Sujit Kumar, Secretary, Chalapathi Educatioal
Society, Sri.Y.V.Anjaneyulu, President, Chalapathi Educational Society presided over the
inauguration function, Prof. Rama Rao Nadendla Principal has given the welcome address. Dr.
G.Subba Rao garu, Dr.S.Kumaravelu garu and Vara Prasad Nagidi garu enumerated the importance
of Health Technology Assessment and Clinical Data Management and importance in the present
clinical scenario. A total of 317 participants from various institutions attended the conference.
Session: I Current scenario of Health Technology Assessment in India and opportunities for
health care professionals.
Speaker: Dr. Devarshi Bhattacharya, Assistant Director, Kalam Institute of Health Technology,
Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone , A.P.
Dr. Devarshi Bhattacharya explained what Health Technology Assessment is and need of HTA in the
present clinical scenario. He also explained about economic evaluations in health care setting and
their influence in decision making. He explained the need of HTA in the present economic condition
of India where only 2-3% of total budget is spent on health. He exampled some situations where HTA
involved in decision making and in the development of cost effective medicines and medical devices.
He suggested students to con concentrate on systemic reviews and meta analysis, statistical analysis,
health economic modeling, scientific writing and price analytics to grab opportunities in HTA.
Session II: Clinical Data Management introduction and scope
Speaker: Mr. Harikrishna Chanda, Sr. Clinical Data Analyst(Primary CDA), Hyderabad.
Mr. Harikrishna Chanda explained about various phases of clinical trials and how data will be
generated from these phases. He listed top clinical research companies that are investing more money
on clinical research. He explained how the data will be processed during a clinical research. He
explained the advantages India have being a hub for CDM. He also scope of CDM. He explained
about paper CRF data and EDC data. He enumerated the process of data flow in CDM AND Data
Management Plan which is a guide o handle data during the course of the study. He elaborated about
CRF annotation and E CRF and tracking of CRF in paper CRF. He also elaborated about discrepancy
types and discrepancy management. He explained about SAE reconciliation and coding with the help
of Med DRA. He also explained different tools used in the management of clinical data such as
Oracle, Rave ( Medidata) and Inform etc..
Session III: Tools in CDM
Speaker: Mr. Harikrishna Chanda, Sr. Clinical Data Analyst (Primary CDA), Hyderabad.
Mr. Harikrishna Chanda elaborated about CRF annotation and E CRF and tracking of CRF in paper
CRF. He also elaborated about discrepancy types and discrepancy management. He explained about

Session IV: Hands on training on Clinical Data Management
Speaker: Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Associate Manager, IQVIA, Bangalore.
Mr. Sandeep Kumar explained about query management and discrepancy management. He
demonstrated how to generate a query and how to answer a query with the help of Rave software. He
explained about manual queries and automated queries. He explained about do’s and don’ts in query
management.
Session V: Open Forum
Guest speakers Mr. Harikrishna Chanda, Mr. Sandeep Kumar and Dr. Devarshi Bhattacharya
interacted with delegates and clarify their doubts related to the career opportunities, nature of job,
qualification required for the students to enter into the field. Many of the student delegates were
actively interacted with panelist and clarify their doubts.
Students delegates interacted actively and also answered the questions asked by guest speakers were
awarded with prizes. All the participants received certificate of participation. Students delegates were
given positive feedback about the programme.

Regional Chapter conducted 2nd National workshop on meta analysis and systematic review : A
Pharmacoeconomic perspective in Indian scenario on 19/7/19 and 20/7/19.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. D. S. Raju Naidu, medical superintendent, Government
General Hospital, Guntur, Dr. N.V.Sundharachary, Professor & Head Department of Neurology,
Government General Hospital, Guntur, Dr.Venigalla Bala Bhaskar Rao Director of Anjai
superspeciality hospitals, Guntur. Y. Sujit Kumar, Secretary, Chalapathi Educatioal Society,
Sri.Y.V.Anjaneyulu, President, Chalapathi Educational Society presided over the inauguration
function, Prof. Rama Rao Nadendla Principal has given the welcome address. Dr. D. S. Raju Naidu

Session:I Overview on systematic literature and review
Speaker: Mr.Aditya Kataria, Consultant, IQVIA – India.
Mr.Aditya kataria elaborated about the methods to collect data,critically appraise research studies,
and synthesize studies that directly relate to the systematic review question.examination of clinical
tests,public health interventions.He also explained regarding developing a search startergy and
evidence pyramid,practice of evidence based medicine and strenghtsand weaknesses of various study
designs and various steps involved in literature review.
Session:2 Research questions, PICOS
Speaker: Mr.Aditya Kataria, Consultant, IQVIA – India.
Mr.Aditya Kataria here in this session explained regarding the framing a research question
and what are the points to be considered during framing the research question. He also explained
regarding the PICO parameters like population to be selected based on the area of research question
and selection of intervention accordingly and selection of standard comparator and outcome to be
measured with help of an example of Diabetes mellitus
Session:3 Types of study designs
Speaker: Mr.Aditya Kataria, Consultant, IQVIA – India
Mr. Adity Kataria explained about the types of study designs and what are the steps followed in
different study designs. Here he explained about the experimental and observational studies. As a part
of experimental he explained about the randomised control trials and selection of different
randomised control trials for meta analysis. In case of observational studies he explained about the
cohortstudies, case control studies, various case reports and other studies and finally ended with
evidence pyramid.
Then, Poster presentations, leaflet competitions, quiz prelims and cultural competitions were helded

Session:4 Search strategies
Speaker: Mr.Aditya Kataria, Consultant, IQVIA – India
Here in this session Mr.Aditya Kataria explained about the different data bases to be used to
search the literature which is existing through the visual explanation of Pub-Med as one of the search
startergy. He also explained regarding the different steps to be followed to evaluate the literature. He
also added information on other data baseas like Embase and med watch and other clinical trial sites.
Session:5 Types of Data in Literature, Data Extraction
Speaker: Mrs. Akriti Chahar Tomar, Consultant, National Health System Resource cenre,
Ministry of Health & family welfare, Govt. of India
Mrs.Akriti Chahar Tomar initially summarized the first day sessions and then moved on to the
types of data in literature. Here she briefly explained about the discrete and continuous DATA. She
also explained the data extraction with an example of cardiac stents versus sodiumnitroprusside in
management of CAD attacks. She also summarized about the steps involved in research process and
mainly focused on the synthesis of Data.
Session : 6 Database for literature search
Speaker: Mr.Aditya Kataria, Consultant, IQVIA – India
Mr,Aditya Kataria explained about the literature search and here he showed what are the different
databases used to search literature. Here he quoted several databases as examples for literature search
and mainly explained about how to search a strategy in the Pub-med and how to collect different
combined search strategy articles.
Then Patient counseling, Prescription handling and quiz competitions were helded.
Session : 7 (Hands on training)Meta Analysis (Revman 5.3) & Interpretation
Speaker: Mrs. Akriti Chahar Tomar, Consultant, National Health System Resource centre,
Ministry of Health & family welfare, Govt. of India
Mrs.Akriti chahae Tomar carried out this session with validation of data of two articles relating
to the computerised alerts to the parents of newborns which was given priorly to students as printouts
with help of Rev-Man software provided by the cochranel ibrary. Here she also briefed out about the
submission of protocol and data entry and Forest plot interpretation. She also added some points on
Winbugs software.
Session 8: Open Forum

Chapter, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Alumni Association Chalapathi Institute of
Pharmaceutical Sciences organized Second International conference on new insights of
Phamacoepidemiology, Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmacovigilance on 17th and 18th September 2019.
The theme of the conference is “Pragmatic approach for better decision making – Global versus National
scenario.
17/09/2019 (First day of the conference)
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Sabinkar Babulal, Superintendent, Government
General Hospital, Guntur, Dr. Rajesh Balakrishnan, Professor, Public Health Sciences, University of
Virginia, USA. Dr. Gareth Sim Maw Shin, Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, University
of Malaya, Malaysia, Dr. S. Planisamy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, International Medical
University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Dr. K.G. Revi Kumar, Director, Kerala Institute of Drug
Studies, Trivendrum, Kerala , Dr. Vivekanandan Kalaiselvan, Principal Scientific Officer, PvPI, IPC,
Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. S. B. Uday Shankar, Internal Medicine Specialist, Ahalya Nursing
Home, Guntur, Sri. Y. Sujit Kumar, Secretary, Chalapathi Educational Society, Sri.Y.V.Anjaneyulu,
President, Chalapathi Educational Society presided over the inaugural function. Prof. Rama Rao
Nadendla Principal has given the welcome address. Dr. Sabinkar Babulal enlightened and pointed out
the importance of this conference, and he made aware the students regarding benefits of this
conference. Dr. Rajesh Balakrishnan had given an inspirational talk about the pharmacist and the
pharmacy profession and how a pharmacist can help for the betterment of public health. Dr. Gareth
Sim Maw Shin expressed his pleasure for organizing international conference which focuses more on
pharmacoepidemiology and economics. Dr. S. Palanisamy enlightened the minds of delegates by
coating some of his professional experiences related to pharmacy services. Dr. Vivekanandan
Kalaiselvan, praised the student delegates who participated in the conference with a great enthusiasm
and also the organizers for organizing the conferences with good speakers of professional excellence.
Dr. S.B. Uday Shankar briefed about the role of pharmacist in Indian health care scenario.
Five plenary lectures were delivered during the two days of conference by foreign and Indian
speakers on the topics related to Pharmacoepidemiology, Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmacovigilance
and Pharmacogenomics.
Technical sessions:
Plenary Lecture: 01 – Medicinal product Safety Monitoring
Dr. Vivekanandan Kalaiselvan detailed about the safety monitoring process of drugs and medical
devices. He explained about the medical device rule 2017 and ADR reporting in India. He discussed
different aspects of medical device Adverse event reporting, causality assessment and regulatory
actions. He also explained different medical device testing laboratories in India and listed out various
notified medical devices that will comes under materiovigilance. He opined that student of Pharm.D
and Pharmacy Practice are having a great scope in materiovigilance. Delegates interacted
enthusiastically after his session and clarified their doubts regarding pharmacovigilance and
materiovigilance.
Plenary Lecture 02 – Evaluation and application of pharmacoeconomics for Pharmacist
Dr. Rajesh Balakrishnan Explained various pharmacoeconomic evaluations like cost effective
analysis, cost utility analysis, cost benefit analysis and cost minimization analysis. He explained in
detail about various steps involved in conducting a cost effective analysis. He exampled various case
studies of pharmacoeconomic evaluations in an easy and understandable manner. He also explained
about current challenges and future directions of pharmacoeconomic research. He interacted with the
students after the session and explained how the scenario of pharmacoecoeconomics is changing day
by day and the skills required by the students in order to grab the opportunities.
Plenary lecture: 03 – Adopting Pharmacoeconomics to shape efficient health care system in
India
Prof.K.G.Revikumar addressed about the development of Pharmacy education in India and
also the development and incorporation of Pharmacoeconomics into the curriculum. He also
explained various Pharmacoeconomics methods such as cost effective analysis, cost minimization
analysis, cost utility analysis and cost benefit analysis which should be incorporated in
curricula and also in practice to make aware the budding pharmacist about the importance of
Pharmacoeconomics in health care decision making. He explained the need of application of
Pharmacoeconomic principles in Indian health care system to reduce the health expenditure of Indian
population.
Plenary Lecture: 04 – Adverse Drug Reactions and Drug interactions – A Potential Threat to
life
Dr. S. Palanisamy described the problems faced by the patients and physicians due to the adverse
drug reactions and drug interactions. He quoted several examples from various research articles how
adverse drug reactions and drug interactions are affecting the patients and increasing health care
costs. He also briefed about prescription legibility issues and poly pharmacy and how they adversely
affecting the health of the patients. He explained the students about opportunities for pharmacy
students in various sectors of pharmacy such as academics, industry, hospital and research. In student
interaction he answered the questions posed by the students regarding pharmacy education in
Malaysia.

Plenary Lecture: 05 – Pharmacovigilance, Current and future considerations in regulatory and
pharmaceutical industry
Mr.T.Viswanath, Head - safety case Processing, Pharmacovigilance Operations, Novartis, Hyderabad
explained the importance of patient data safety and how it will be maintained in pharmacovigilance
companies. He explained global and national challenges in patient safety. He also explained about the
data privacy and Indian regulation on pharmacovigilance. At the end he briefed various traditional
and modern ways of reporting the data.
Plenary Lecture: 06 – Pharmacogenomics
Dr. Gareth Sim Maw Shin discussed about differential drug efficacy in perspective of
pharmacogenomics. He discussed how genetic factors will affect the drug response and the need of
personalized medicine. He enumerated the need of pharmacogenomics in developing new drugs and
its effect on health care costs. He explained the role of genetics in drug addiction and specific genes
involving various addictive disorders.
Plenary Lecture: 07 – Scope and future of Pharm.D – A Physician’s perspective in current
scenario
Dr. B.S.Uday Shankar enumerated the importance of clinical pharmacist in providing patient care. He
explained various skills that a clinical pharmacist should acquire to practice as a clinical pharmacist
and to act as liaison between patient and physician. He briefed about the common medication errors
made by physician and nurses and how the knowledge of clinical pharmacy will help to avoid those
medication errors.
Valedictory of two day international conference sponsored by AICTE was close on heels. The
dignitaries graced the occasion were Dr. Gareth Sim Maw Shin, Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of
Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia, Dr. S. Planisamy, Department of Pharmacy Practice,
International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Dr. S. B. Uday Shankar, Internal
Medicine Specialist, Ahalya Nursing Home, Guntur, Mr.T.Viswanath , Head - safety case Processing,
Pharmacovigilance Operations, Novartis, Hyderabad, Sri.Y.V.Anjaneyulu, President, Chalapathi
Educational Society and Prof. Rama Rao Nadendla. All the dignitaries urged the participants to be
technically sound in the area of Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmacoepidemiology because the
pharmacist being circumcentre of physician, patient and nurse in addressing the issues related to
medicines. Dr. S.B. Uday shankar opined the patient engagement plays key role in strengthening the
healthcare of India. He mentioned patient should actively participate or report any adverse events or
outbreak of new or recurrent diseases to Pharmacovigilance centre. This ultimately changes the
policies by the involvement of all major stakeholders of health.
Details of Participants:
A total of 300 students, research scholars and faculty were registered for this two days
international conference from 2 states and from all over Andhra Pradesh.
95 students presented their papers in poster presentation which were evaluated by external
experts and 112 students participated in events like quiz, dancing and singing. Best 04 posters and
were selected from each disciplinary and were awarded with Cash prizes of Rs. 3,000, 2,000, 1,000
respectively and winners of 4th prize were awarded with a memento. The delegates excelled in
various competitions were awarded with a total cash prize of Rs. 28,000.

4. A SYMPOSIUM ON PHARMACEUTICAL CARE -2019

We on behalf of ISPOR ANU student chapter in association with Dept. of Pharmacy Practice,
Chalapathi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences have conducted a “A SYMPOSIUM ON
PHARMACEUTICAL CARE” on 19th October 2019 at Chalapathi Institute of Pharmaceutical
Sciences, Lam, Guntur.
The program was inaugurated and Message delivered by Dr. G. Prabhakar, Clinical pharmacologist,
HCG hospitals, Bangalore and Prof. Nadendla Rama Rao, Principal of Chalapathi institute of
pharmaceutical sciences, followed by Guest lecture of Dr. G. prabhakar about Pharmaceutical care
and discussion regarding career opportunities for Pharm.D students globally. Guest lecture scheduled
from 10.00 AM to 11.00 AM
Guest lecture emphasize mainly on
1. What is pharmaceutical care
2. How to develop a pharmaceutical care plan
3. Role of clinical pharmacist to implement the care plan
4. Advantages of the care plan for better patient outcomes
5. Career opportunities for Doctor of Pharmacy students in India and Abroad
Several competitions conducted on the symposium day like quiz competition, painting competition
and Group discussion
→ In quiz competition total of 37 teams (4 Participants/team) from 5 different pharmacy colleges in
and around Guntur were actively participated in the competition. The quiz preliminary round has
been scheduled from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM, pre-finals and Finals from 2.00 PM to 3.30 PM
→10 teams were screened based on the results of preliminary round which was conducted for
duration of 30 minutes.
5 teams were eliminated after 3 rounds,
1 st round comprising of Current affairs (4 Questions/team)
2 nd round comprising of Pharma subjects (4 Questions/team)
3 rd round comprising of Pharmaceutical care (3 Questions/team)
The final 5 teams competed over 3 rounds which are as follows:
4 th round is rapid fire (5 questions at once/team)
5 th round is it’s your turn (3 questions/team) which avails the opportunity for the participant to select
the question on their own from the given set of questions.
6 th round is Jackpot round in which participants are provided with the buzzer (20 questions).
Painting competition was conducted on the Theme- Emergency management (First aid), random
topics were given to the participants on the spot and total number of participants was 20. The event
has been scheduled from 11.45 AM to 12.30 PM and followed by Lunch break from 12.30 PM to
1.30 PM.
Group discussion was conducted on the Theme- Reverting system of Medicine in India- Your Notion,
it was conducted in two rounds with the total number of participants were 45, there were divided in to
three teams after first round in each team 3 member were selected and remaining were eliminated.
The second was conducted with 9 participants and out of nine top five were won the prizes.
VALEDICTORY:- Prof. Ramarao Nadendla , Principal, CLPT, Guntur along with Dr. P. Sarath
Kumar, Assistant civil surgeon, GGH, Guntur has distributed prizes to winners and Appreciated the
ISPOR ANU STUDENT CHAPTER TEAM , STAFF , STUDENTS for making grand success of the
Symposium-2019.
In Quiz the 1st prize which is cash prize of RS.3000/- was awarded to R. Ram Prasad (VI/VI
Pharm.D), Sk. Abdul Rehaman (VI/VI Pharm.D), Suresh (IV/VI Pharm.D), Rahul Salmon
(IV/IV B. Pharmacy).
The 2nd prize which is cash prize of RS.2000/- was awarded to M.Dinesh, T.Vamsi (IV/VI Pharm.
D), D.V. Harsha, K. Sai Krishna (III/IV B.Pharmacy)
The 3rd prize which is cash prize of RS.1000/- was awarded to B. Srujana, J.Allan Rose, S.
Tejaswini, Tanuja ( V/VI Pharm.D)
The 4th prize which is Files was awarded to L.Sindhu Madhuri, P. Uma maheshwari, K. Nava
Komali, M. Yogitha (IV/VI Pharm-D)
The 5th price which is Files was awarded to K. Bhuvaneswari, R.Sai Yamini, N.Sindhura, P. Sai
prasanna of V/VI Pharm.D, Vignan Pharmacy College.
In painting the 1st prize was awarded to Y. Sudharani (V/VI Pharm.D), CLPT
2nd prize was awarded to A. Venkatesh, Vignan College of Pharmacy
