What is CIOFF ®

CIOFF ® – International Council of Organizations for Festivals of Folklore and Traditions Arts is an non – governmental Organization and official partner of UNESCO, created in 1970.

The duty of CIOFF ® is safeguarding , promotion and diffusion of traditional culture and folklore

CIOFF ® worldwide membership covers 89 countries of the world, with 69 National Sections, 11 Associate Members and 30 Corresponding Members

What CIOFF ® does

• Over 300 International Folklore Festivals, including International Children’s Festivals

• 1500 Traditional Arts & Crafts Exhibitions

• 5000 Traditional Dance, Music, Songs & Crafts Workshops

• Seminars and Conferences

• CIOFF ® World Folkloriada (every 4 years)

• Participations in UNESCO programs

• CIOFF ® World Congress & General Assembly

National Section of CIOFF ® Bulgaria

National Section of CIOFF ® Bulgaria was founded in 2001 by Mr. Emil Pavlov.As representative of CIOFF ®, have the following objectives:• dissemination of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH)• encourage the organization of national, regional and

international ICH events• promoting dialogue and networking among CIOFF ® members• cooperating with international and regional association,

institutions and organizations• cooperating with others in the establishment of an international

information network

What is CIOFF ® Youth

CIOFF ® Youth is composed by young people – between - 15 – 26 years old – who are working under CIOFF ® National Sections

The main objectives of CIOFF ® Youth are cooperation with CIOFF ® in safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage trough cultural activities and projects.

Traditional Games Programme

The world-wide Programme of Re-valution of Traditional Games is an initiative proposed by the CIOFF ® Youth Coordination Committee in 2007

Its main objectives are the safeguarding and the diffusion of games as important part of intangible heritage, that has been transmitted trough generations and its preservation is essential because of the imposition of new technologies and digital games

The program is easily adaptable for the different realities of each country and is implemented through projects elaborated by each CIOFF ® Youth commission

General objectives of the Program

• to reinforce the cooperation and tolerance, deepening the intercultural dialogue between the young people of the world

• to foment the international dialogue

• to analyze the evolution of the games as a results of evolution of the society, considering the factors that influence the origin, evolution and/or disappearance

• to generate an intercultural dialogue

General objectives of the Program

• to allow discovery of the importance of the Cultural diversity and to project the different scopes of the community

• to preserve the importance of Cultural Identity

• to apply to the initiative of young people who reunite CIOFF ® to develop projects, of UNESCO and the CIOFF ® International, referred to vulnerable cultures in the globalization process

First relevant activities

• Exchange activities with seniors (Argentina)

Compilation and analyses of traditional games practices by seniors in their childhood. These activities are a good tool to encourage the intergenerational dialogue between seniors, young people and children.

• Exchange activities between children and young people (Argentina)

Activities done in public places and private institutions (schools). The activity consists of the explanation and transmission of traditional games to children trough young people

Activities with aboriginal communities with the main goal to safeguard their traditional games and different aspects of their culture.

• International exchange activities (The Netherlands)

This activity consist of workshops for children where the young people teach in a didactic way games practiced in different countries. The results of these workshops are shown in artistic performances

• Activities with Folk Groups in International Festivals (Italy)

These activities take place in the frame of International Festivals. Into the official schedule, the organizers include a didactic explanation of a traditional game to the foreign participants.
