PACE combines Design Thinking, Lean Startup & Agile Scrum into a single
process.
Design thinking is a human-centred
approach to problem solving.
By collaborating across disciplines, teams
explore what people desire, what is financially
viable, organisationally possible and
technologically feasible.
Agile Scrum is a software development
methodology that replaces sequential
development with an iterative and adaptive
approach. Scrum is a subset of Agile: a
lightweight framework for agile development.
Scrum uses development cycles called Sprints
that help teams respond to unpredictability and
maximise productive time.
Lean startup methodology is a method for
guiding you toward the best solution for your
customer problem. It provides a framework for
project decision making:
where and when to turn, when to persevere, and
how to progress with velocity by running
experiments continuously validated with
customers.

What does blockchain mean to us?
“A distributed ledger is a system that allows
parties who don’t fully trust each other
to come to consensus about the
existence, nature and evolution of a set
of shared facts
without having to rely on a fully trusted
centralized third party.”

Different strategies in blockchain
A. Internal education
• Large number of POCs • Build internal expertise
• Partner with tech suppliers • Increase organizational
awareness
D. Low hanging fruit
• Capitalize on current tech maturity to enter new markets
• Maintain current business models and practices
C. Tech conservative
• Wait for tech maturity • Engage only by providing subject matter
expertise • Small resource commitment
B. Setting Standards
• Very active in industry consortia/WG • Engage with regulators
• Collaborate with academia • Open source / whitepaper
contributions

Experiment description:
• After Winning the Bootcamp in June, Easy Trading
Connect assembled a team who started working in the
ICEC in September with the mission to revolutionize
Commodity Trade and Finance with Blockchain.
Hypothesis:
• Commodity traders and trade finance banks are looking
for ways to reduce costs, risks and time to their
transactions, however, they still rely on paper and
outdated document checking procedures.
Lessons Learned

Project LEIA (R3)
Experiment description:
• Project LEIA aims to build and evaluate a proof-of-concept of a self-sovereign
identity on a shared KYC utility using distributed ledger technology.
• It also aims to build an initial identity model using smart contracts and
intends to lay the foundation for future identity related projects.
Hypothesis:
• The project is able to simulate the identity instantiation process of both a
legal entity and natural person, enrichment of the identity with KYC data and
identity attestations by third-parties.
• The project will demonstrate the process of identity verification by banks
and fulfil their basic KYC requirements of new customer onboarding.
Lessons Learned
• The concept is viable and this implementation has some advantages over
existing systems
• Access control and confidentiality need to be improved

Project BRAVO (R3)
Experiment description:
• Project Bravo aims at creating a High Quality Liquid Asset(HQLA)
marketplace based on DLT
• The operating model involves modelling Digital Collateral Receipts (DCR) on
R3’s Corda distributed ledger.
Hypothesis:
• A DLT implementation of a DCR marketplace is viable and provides benefits
compared to existing solutions in terms of speed and transparency.
Lessons Learned
The project demonstrated the ability to create a digital collateral receipt lending
market, designed to achieve the following benefits:
• Help market participants redistribute liquidity more effectively and more cost
efficiently
• Enhance regulatory transparency of collateral chains
• Mitigate systemic risk by enabling orderly default unwinds

Project Thredbo (R3)
Experiment description:
• Project Thredbo aims to create an interoperability layer between Corda and
Calypso systems.
• In this phase of the project, trade matching for FX spot on DLT was
implemented
Hypothesis:
• A DLT implementation of FM Back-office infrastrure can reduce risks and
inefficiencies.
Lessons Learned
• Through this succesful POC, valuable insight was gained on how to ensure
interoprability between existing infrastructure and DLT based systems
• How to model FX settlement confirmations in Corda Smart contracts
• Confirmation that this implementation would significantly reduce operational
risk

Project eLoC (R3) Experiment description:
• Project eLoC is a single-phased project designed to model the end-to-end letter
of credit (LoC) process flow on Corda, R3’s platform for DLT
Hypothesis:
• Legally enforceable digital documents, including B/Ls, can be created and used
in this process, from both a legal and technological perspective.
• Use of an existing document matching technology to match a B/L, invoice and
certificate of origin, and other documents to be determined
Lessons Learned
• eLoC is a simplification of traditional LoC too simple
• Next phase required:
• interoperability by processing a LoC across 2 distributed ledgers
• provide richer LoC functionality by adding additional actors and

Project Voltron (R3) Experiment description:
• Project Voltron is phase 2 of eLoC, with significant changes:
• addition of a confirming bank
• a user interface with a technology provider (CGI)
• addition documentation (PO, Certificate of Origin and insurance, packing
list), amendments and discrepancies
• Processing of letter of credit across two ledgers: Fabric and Corda
Hypothesis:
• Solution will provide a simplified customer experience and greater straight
through processing across traditionally fragmented business networks
Lessons Learned
• Validation of interoperability by processing a LoC across 2 distributed ledgers
• Voltron confirmed that adding richer functionality to eLoC is possible.
