Ikeaon astageOUT of thousands of stu-dents, a group of Oxley Col-lege performers have beenselected as one of the few toperform at OnSTAGE.

It is the fourth time inseveral years the High-lands school has had stu-dents chosen to feature inthe showcase.

OnSTAGE is an annualshowcase of the most out-standing individual andgroup HSC drama perfor-mances. This year, two Oxleygroups were nominated.

Head of Drama at Ox-ley Phil Cunich said it wassomething very special to beselected for OnSTAGE.

“We’re talking the top oneper cent of candidature fordrama in the HSC,” he said.

“It highlights how hardand talented our kids are atdrama. They’re very dedicat-ed to the subject.”

Tom Hill, Ryan Muir, EllaMoran, Sophie Capel and

Mitch Latham’s performanceabout a family’s trip to Ikea tobuy a table caught the judg-es attention.

Mr Cunich said wasunique in that the entireperformance was done on asingle drama box.

“It’s a really interesting useof space and a really physicalpiece of theatre,” he said.

“The way they manipulatethemselves on thedramaboxmakes it really interestingbecause it’s a very restrictedspace. It’s not something yousee all the time which madethe piece stand out in itsoriginality and execution.”

The other Oxley groupwhich was nominated didan existential piece on amansearching for meaning in hislife. OnSTAGEwill run at theSeymour Centre in Sydneyin February 2018. Ticketsopened up on Monday canbe purchased online throughthe Seymour Centre’s onlinebox office or the Board ofStudies website.
