07:00 am – 03:00 pm
IE conducted soil borings in the eastern portion of the site utilizing a Geoprobe® 6600. Soil samples were collected continuously into 5-foot long, 2-inch diameter dedicated acetate sleeves (macro-core samplers) to the final depth. In-situ soil samples were collected from the following waste characterization (WC) grid locations: Grid #: WC14, WC15, WC16, WC17, WC18, WC19, WC20, WC27, WC29, WC32, WC35, and WC40. Grid locations are provided in the Sampling Sketch. Decontamination prior to sampling and in between soil boring locations included, but was not limited removing adherent material(s) with bristle brush(es) and washing sampling equipment / tools with detergent. Soil samples were collected by IE personnel wearing nitrile gloves, placed in glassware that was labeled and placed in cooler(s) with ice. After sample collection, soil borings were backfilled to grade with FilPro® sand and gravel. Soil samples were submitted to Phoenix Laboratories, Inc. in Manchester, Connecticut (Phoenix Labs). Grab samples were collected with TerraCore© samplers and submitted to Phoenix Labs for volatile organic compounds (VOC) analysis via United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8260. Composite samples were submitted for “RCRA characteristics and full TCLP”, “TCLP Metals & TPH” and priority pollutants metals, semivolatile organic compounds (SVOC), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) / pesticides, and herbicides “to match all NJ DCSRS & NY Part 375 parameters and detection limits.” Soil sampling details provided below are based on field observations and/or sampling documents (COC and soil boring log; Attachment A) prepared and provided by IE: One soil boring was completed in each of the following waste characterization grids: WC14, WC15, WC16, WC17,
WC18, WC19, WC20, WC27, WC29, WC32, WC35, and WC40. Soil borings were completed to a depth ranging between 10 and 12 feet below ground surface (bgs). Where present, ground surface cover included asphalt, concrete and/or gravel that ranged in thickness between 6 and
12 inches. Subsurface soil generally consisted of fill (sand, gravel, brick, wood, coal ash, ash). Trace amounts of “coal ash” were identified from 0 to 5 feet bgs in the soil borings completed within WC14 and WC40. Trace amounts of “ash” were identified from 0.5 to 10 feet bgs in the soil boring completed within WC15. Trace amounts of “ash” were identified from 0.5 to 5 feet bgs in the soil boring completed within WC17. Trace amounts of “ash” were identified from 0 to 5 feet bgs in the soil borings completed within WC27, WC29 and WC35. One grab sample and one composite sample were collected from each soil boring. It should be noted that the COC
indicates 3 grab samples and 25 composite samples were collected (reference “Sample Type” column on COC). Based on field observations, one grab sample and one composite sample were collected from each boring. According to IE, incorrect sample types were listed for certain samples on the COC.
Four duplicate soil samples were collected. Where detected, groundwater was encountered at depths ranging between 5 and 7 feet bgs. Based on the Waste Characterization Samples Identification Table presented in Drawing Plate # 1, Sample Acquisition Plan, prepared by IE and dated August 19, 2014 and provided in the In-Situ Soil Analysis Specification Section 02105, Page 6, Paragraph 1.05-A, Submittal No. 02105.001, and Review Cycle No. 001 (August 2014 IE WC Sample Table): WC14, WC15, WC16, WC17, WC18, and WC19: Two samples were proposed for collection and as of the date of this
DFR, one of two samples has been collected.
08:40 am GC breaking up the concrete that is stockpiled around the demolition area (northerrn portion of the site) using Excavator Wrecking 345B L with hammer.
09:00 am Surveyor marking out the proposed building grade layout. 09:10 am GC performed maintenance on Excavator M22 with bucket.
09:25 am GC performed maintenance on Excavator 345B L with hammer and replaced the hammer with a crusher.

09:30 am GC stops work during work break.
09:50 am GC continues with demolition of the concrete slab, footings and asphalt-cover in the southern portion of the site using Excavator 345C with hammer.
10:40 am GC used Excavator 345B L with crusher to load the 30 cubic yard (cy) metal container with rebar from the building foundation demolition. The container is staged in the northern portion of the site.
11:30 am GC performed maintenance on the silt fence located in the northern and eastern portions of the site.
12:00 pm GC stops work during work break.
12:50 pm GC continues with demolition of the concrete slab, footings and asphalt-cover in the central and western portions of the site using Excavator 345C with hammer.
01:20 pm GC works with Excavator M22 with bucket, segregating and stockpiling asphalt and concrete in the northern portion of the site.
02:00 pm GC performed maintenance on Excavator 345C with hammer.
02:40 pm IE submits the collected soil samples to the Phoenix courier for transport to the laboratory for analyses.
03:00 pm GC continues with demolition of the concrete slab, footings and asphalt-cover in the central and western portions of the site using Excavator 345C with hammer
03:10 pm Excess soil removed as part of the demolition was stockpiled around the demolition area. GC utilized this material to backfill the excavation and slope the sides.
03:17 pm GC stops work for the day.
03:25 pm EnTech removes the air monitoring stations.
Time Off-Site: 04:00 pm
General Observations:
The concrete and asphalt is stockpiled on the ground around the demolition area.
The former building slab / foundation is approximately 8 feet deep in certain areas and is reinforced with rebar of varying sizes.
The subsurface (under the concrete slab and asphalt-cover and around the concrete footings) generally consists of brown coarse sand with varying amounts of fill (e.g., brick, glass, metal fragments, metal pipes, paper, and plastic).
According to EnTech, particulate matter and total organic vapors were not detected at concentrations greater than the action levels.
