Harmonization IEC 61850 with CIM – goal
■ Create the 61850 model automatically from CIM or vice versa
■ Establish the link between
– The attribute of a data in the IEC 61850 model
– The corresponding information in the CIM
– No specific configuration shall be required to create that link; i.e. all shall be based on the models defined
in the two standards
– This shall include a unambiguous mapping of different data types where required

Harmonization issues - configuration
■ Both CIM and IEC 61850 (SCL) contain a model that describes the connectivity (single line diagram)
■ Automatic import of information from one representation into the other
■ No duplicate manual entry of same information
■ The configuration information shall support the complete life cycle of the system, starting from planning
Page 19 © 2008 UTINNOVATION
Harmonization issues – process values
■ Both 61850 and CIM are defining standardized object models
■ Automatic mapping of the information between the two models
■ No loss of information; information defined in 61850 need to be available in CIM
