Step-By-Step This resource is to help you create a

resume that will wow any boss. Your resume and cover letter are your one

MAKE IT STAND OUT!!! Your heading should contain your Name & Contact information.

Make sure your name is nice and big so it is easy to see. This will most likely go at the top of your resume.

Step 1 FORMATING TIP

Your name is the most important piece of your Resume. It should stand out. • Notice how large this

name is in comparison to the rest of the resume text.

Step 2 When creating a

resume, the use of lines is very important. The next few steps will show you how to make a resume from scratch. Notice how

everything is in nice lines.

HOW DO I MAKE NICE LINES? WELL, WITH LABELS OF COURSE!

How Do I Add A Table?

Select Table Insert Table.

To start, I might suggest making 2 columns and 10 rows.

Now your Resume would look like this.

Now we need to look at changing our table to add our personal information.

RESIZE COLUMNS

Move your cursor to the center line of your table.

Click and drag to the left.

STEP 3: Labels

Step 2

Labels

What goes on the Left Side?

Now is your time to add your resume categories. This helps provide a little organization to your document. Hint: Put a space

between each one.

These are suggestions for what might be on a Teen Resume.

Secret Tip!

Put your labels in order of importance. Do you have more Education than Experience? Well, then put that first. Do you have lots of Volunteer work, but no work experience, than put that first. It’s all about putting your best foot forward.

STEP 4: objective Line

objective

Step 4 -

ObjectiveDescribes the job you

are applying for. Do your research and apply for a specific job. The objective line is a great way to make your resume stand out in the crowd.

Good Vs. Bad Objective

BAD OBJECTIVE: To get a job.

GOOD OBJECTIVE: To become a sandwich artist at

Subway, where I can use my hand-eye coordination and my organizational skills.

Note on the Objective line

When writing your Objective be sure to do the following:List the specific job you are trying to

apply for.Discuss the skills you can bring to that

job.• Example: To become a sandwich artist at

Subway, where I can use my hand-eye coordination and my organizational skills.

Now It’s Your Turn

Write an objective line for a job you would like to apply for.

Step 5 - Now that we have written an objective line, we need to

talk about our Education. However, we need to learn to split cells to allow us to organize our resume.

Split Cell’s

First Right click on the cell you

would like to split.

Second Select the number of

columns you would like it split into. For this example, we will select 3.

Now My Resume Looks Like This. Notice the Split Cells.

STEP 6: Education

Step 4

Step 2

Education

Secret Tip! Remember about the order of importance.

Not only are we going to place our labels on the left in order of importance, we will do the same with our split cells.

What do you feel is most important? The School you went to, or where its

located? Place the most important label in the first

box.

Step 2

ActionWords

Action Words end in “ed”

Notice the use of Action Words at each bullet point. Action words

make it sound like you have done something.

Step 7 - Here is an example of Action Words that we can use

in our resumes. Bad Example

• I was a cashier at pop-eyes. Usually I worked at the cash register, but sometimes I cleaned up.

Good Example• Operated front desk cash register.• Helped to create new training program for the organization.• Promoted to shift leader after three months of employment.

Secret Tip!

Every bullet point you have in your resume should start with an Action Word.

What’s After Education?

When you are done completing your Education section, go back through Steps 7, but focus on your other categories:ExperienceVolunteer WorkSkills
