How to access your email using Outlook Express

Before you start

You need a PC with Internet connection.

You need a working email id and password.

Note: Irrespective of the way how users access their mails, all users need to validate their identity by logging in through web interface (http://mail.airtelmail.in) at least for once and activate their account.

To access their mails through email client like Outlook Express, one needs to enable SMTP / POP3 access through web interface.

Stepwise Guide

Before you start here, you need to first activate your account as per instructions mentioned in document “How to access your email for first time”

Once you do that please come back here.

In case you have already completed activation steps, please proceed

Step – 1Open URL – http://mail.airtelmail.in and enter your existing email user Id & password and click on “Sign in” button.

For example:

Email Id – yogsPassword - test123

Step – 2 After successful login, you will get the Inbox page. Click on “Settings” to enable SMTP & Pop3 access.

Step – 3

Click on “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” link:

Step – 4

Select the appropriate option (pop3 / IMAP) and select the action for email messages from the drop down menu and click button “Save Changes”.

Step – 5 Open Outlook Express and create a new Email Account.

Put you complete name in “Display Name” field and click on “Next” button.

Step – 6 On next screen, enter your complete Email address including domain name i.e. Yogesh@airtelmail.in

Click next.

Step – 7

On next screen select your incoming server as POP3 server and fill the SMTP & POP3 server details as follows:

Pop3 server – pop.gmail.com

SMTP server – smtp.gmail.com

Click “Next” button.

Step – 8

On next screen, fill your complete email Id including domain name e.g. Yogesh@airtelmail.in and provide your mail password.

Click on “Next” button.

On next screen, click on “Finish” button.

Step – 9

Now we need to enable SSL settings:

Select “Accounts” from “Tools” menu.

Select the email account created by you.

Step – 10

Select “Servers” tab and tick the checkbox for enabling authentication for Outgoing Mail Server as shown below.

Make sure that SMTP & POP address are correct.

SMTP Server – smtp.gmail.comPOP3 Server – pop.gmail.com

And “Account Name” contains complete email id.

Step – 11

Select “Advanced” tab and enable SSL for SMTP & POP3 servers.

The ports of these servers are:

SMTP: 465

POP3: 995

Click “OK” button.

Your Outlook Express is configured & ready to send & receive mails now.
