• Initial Commission proposal for a €80 billion research and innovation funding programme (2014-2020); now just over €70 billion (79 billion in current prices including inflation)

• Within the flagged topics the involvement of SSH will differ from a dominating/defining role to a more limited role

• The SSH flagged topics constitute 37 % of all topics and an estimated budget available for SSH of 448 million euros. This represents 5.3 % of the budget (3,8 % excluding SC6)

• The Excellent Science pillar is a very important instrument to support SSH research - the indicated share of SSH of the budgets for the ERC and Marie Sklodowska-Curie represents approximately 700 million euros for SSH for the first call of Horizon 2020

Integrating SSH: Future actions

• Ensure that all operational directorates pursue actively the integration of SSH in their WPs

• The evaluation panels for the SSH flagged topics need to include experts with SSH competences – guidance for integrating the SSH expertise will be made

• New series of SSH flagged topics across Horizon 2020 in the Work Programmes 2016 and beyond should be developed on the basis of strategic programming building on the structured input from the research community

• A regular monitoring of the integration of SSH should be organised during the lifetime of Horizon 2020

All beneficiaries are required to deposit in an online archive (1) a machine-readable electronic copy of the published version or (2) a final peer-reviewed manuscript accepted for publication. Open access to data In H2020 projects are encouraged to deposit the data resulting from their work, including associated metadata, in a research data repository. The projects funded under SC6 will participate in the Pilot on Open Research Data – they will be required to develop a Data Management Plan detailing what data the project will generate, whether and how it will be exploited or made accessible for verification and re-use, and how it will be curated and preserved. Projects may choose to opt out.

Topics are described in a rather open fashion, less

prescriptive than often under FP7, i.e. proposers can address

the topics in a comprehensive way, in a focussed way or cover

other issues relevant for addressing the topic

Call text provides an indicative budget range for research

projects in order to indicate the average expected size of the

proposal; however, any amount is possible, i.e. no eligibility

criteria regarding the budget size
