Soup Quotes

“Bouillabaisse, this golden soup, this incomparable golden soup which embodies and concentrates all the aromas of our shores and which permeates, like an ecstasy, the stomachs of astonished gastronomes. Bouillabaisse is one of those classic dishes whose glory has encircled the world, and the miracle consists of this: there are as many bouillabaisses as there are good chefs or cordon bleus. Each brings to his own version his special touch.”Curnonsky (1872-1956)

Ingredients

Gestalt- Human beings are always working to complete the incomplete, working for closure; discrepancy production, discrepancy reduction; a view that psychological phenomena could only be understood if viewed as organized, structured wholes (Gestalten). The Gestalt point of view challenged the idea that phenomena could be introspectively broken down into primitive perceptual elements, for such analysis left out the notion of the whole unitary essence of the phenomena.

Ingredients

Cognitive Dissonance - An emotional state where two simultaneously held attitudes or cognitions are inconsistent, or there is a conflict between belief and overt behavior; thought conflict; the uncomfortable psychological condition created when a person experiences contradictory or conflicting opinions, beliefs, or attitudes at the same time. The resolution of this conflict is assumed to serve as the basis for attitude change, in that belief patterns are generally modified to be consistent with behavior. We can hold different attitudes without emotional disharmony as long as a situation does not occur where these attitudes are brought into direct confrontation with one another.

Ingredients

Creative Subconscious - The source of mental process that leads to solutions, ideas, conceptualizations, artistic forms, theories, or products that are unique and novel.

Efficacy - The power to produce results; a generative capability in which cognitive, social, and behavioral sub-skills are organized into integrated courses of action to secure innumerable purposes.

Ingredients

I x V = R - Imagination times vividness equals reality (in the subconscious)

Motivation - A need or drive to action based on incentive value of the goal or the expectation of reward or punishment. Emotional states have motivational properties.

Out of Order/Into Order - Discrepancy production/Discrepancy reduction.

Ingredients

Replacement Picture - The new picture given to oneself, in order to change an attitude, habit or belief, accomplished through the affirmation and visualization process.

Resolve Conflicts - One of the actions of the creative subconscious, to keep one acting or behaving like one knows oneself to be.

Ingredients

Self-Efficacy - One's appraisal of one's own ability to cause, to bring about, make happen; one's own power or capacity to produce the desired effect; a combination of one's self-esteem, skills, and resources; task specific.

Subconscious - The level of mind through which material passes on the way toward full consciousness; an information store containing memories that are momentarily outside of awareness but that can easily be brought into consciousness.

Ingredients

Teleological - A doctrine or belief that a final cause exists, that there is a purpose to being, that all move toward a goal or final destination, and that order in the universe is not random.

“A first-rate soup is more creative than a second-rate painting” Abraham Maslow

Soup Quote

“A soup like this is not the work of one man. It is the result of a constantly refined tradition. There are nearly a thousand years of history in this soup.”

Willa Cather, 'Death Comes for the Archbishop' (1927)
