Adani Institute of Infrastructure Engineering (AIIE) hosted GTU lecture titled
Infrastructure: Outer and Inner. How do we best put them together in the
Low Carbon Era? This lecture was delivered by Dr. Charles M Savage, Author
of Fifth Generation Management and President, Knowledge Era Enterprising
(KEE), International, Munich, Germany. Dr. Charles M Savage is Honorary
Director of GTU Post Graduate Centre for Business Ethics and CSR
(CBECSR).
Dr. Savage works with and coaches company presidents, division managers and
other senior executives committed to improving their knowledge strategy,
organizational culture, market responsiveness and customer focus. He has
pioneered the discussion of Fifth Generation Management as a way to tap and
team the creative capabilities of professionals within and between companies.
The title of his talk was Infrastructure: Outer and Inner. How do we best put
them together in the Low Carbon Era?
Other dignitaries present at the event included Dr. Pankaj Rai Patel, Director,
Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Mr. J.C.Shukla, CEO and Managing
GTU-Centre for Business Ethics and CSR (CBECSR)
Director, Nahak Overseas Ltd, and Mrs Krutika Raval, Assistant Professor,
GTU. The event commenced with a floral felicitation of Guest of Honour and
dignitaries.

This was followed by the welcome address which was delivered by Prof (Dr.)
K.N.Sheth, Director (Operations), AIIE. Dr. Sheth in his address welcomed Dr.
Savage and other dignitaries and guests to the event. Dr. Sheth said that at AIIE,
efforts are made to take the students’ learning experience beyond the confines
of the classroom. The opportunity to learn from experience and expertise of
distinguished experts in different fields complement and enhance the learning
experience of students at AIIE, stimulate scholarly, intellectual and professional
discourse, and provide exposure and insights to students on issues of global
significance. Dr. Sheth said that organizing this lecture by Dr. Charles Savage
was an extension of these efforts and he is positive that students will gain a
global perspective from this talk today.

Prof. Sheth then invited Dr. Savage to give the Inaugural Lecture. Dr. Savage’s
talk was titled: Infrastructure: Outer and Inner. How do we best put them
together in the Low Carbon Era? In this insightful and inspiring address, Dr.
Savage highlighted the crucial anvil at which our planet stands today in face of
an impending low carbon era. He also emphasized the monumental challenge
that infrastructure experts face. Dr. Savage said: “It is now not enough to just
build infrastructure for convenience, but there is an urgency to build a low
carbon infrastructure”.

Dr. Savage’s address also highlighted the gravity and import of this crisis and
how it has compelled the human society to redesign our global economy and
redefine education, business and economy. He said that in wake of a global
world, geography is now history and the crisis does not confine itself to country
borders.

Dr. Savage lecture was followed by an interactive session with the students and
faculty members where students got an opportunity to ask questions.
This was followed by a closing address by Mr. J.C.Shukla, CEO and Managing
Director, Nahak Overseas Ltd. Mr. Shukla carried forward Dr. Savage’s idea

that the responsibility and sustainability of our planet’s future is in our hands
and how technology is power. He emphasised that the common excuse that
money is a problem for carrying out most projects can be solved by using
innovative methods such as crowd funding. He illustrated this with several
successful examples and case studies.

Following this, as a token of extending appreciation and gratitude, Prof (Dr.) K
N Sheth presented Dr. Charles Savage with a momento.

The event came to a close with a vote of thanks extended by Prof. V.M.Patel,
Head of Department, Civil Engineering.
