The Air Force Symbol
This is the Air Force Symbol. It is available in EPS, JPG, TIF and PDF file formats (custom weight,
altered letter forms), and should NEVER be typeset, except in the flow of body copy.
ALWAYS use the approved graphics provided. Excluding proportional enlargement and reduction, this
graphic may not be altered in any way. The only approved colors of this symbol are blue, black, white,
or silver. Orange is not an acceptable color for the Air Force Symbol.
For more up-to-date information regarding the symbol and it’s uses, please see:

Total Force Logo - Horizontal
The preferred Total Force Logo is a horizontal combination of the AF Symbol along with the ANG
Wordmark. Combining them creates their own set of measurements.
The preferred display of the Total Force Horizontal Logo uses the AF Symbol and the ANG
Wordmark side by side with the AF symbol height being equal to the height of the ANG Wordmark.
Because of different display surfaces, such as mobile applications, alternate versions are allowed
when in good taste. Keep in mind that no matter how large the AF Symbol is it requires a 15% stand
off space around it.

Color
The color palette is a key element, providing a strong visual link to the brand identity across a wide
range of applications. Consistent use of the color palette helps build strong brand recognition. All
materials and messages must use colors from the approved color palette to ensure the consistency
and integrity of the brand experience.
01 // Color Family
*Orange is only allowed on the ANG wordmark (typically the triangle) and NOT the AF Symbol.
02 // Color of Total Force Logo on different Background Colors

Total Force Logo In Small Spaces
Occasionally, the Total Force Logo will need to be used in small spaces, such as in web banner ads. It
is acceptable to alter the size of the Air Force Symbol so long as follows the guidelines of 15% stand
off space. Please note that whenever possible, the Air National Guard aims to use the “Total Force
Logo - Preferred Horizontal” that was details on the previous page. Below is listed options only in the
case of tight spaces and/or small sizes.
Fonts and Typefaces
In all applications, no matter what the color, the correct font is “Berthold Akzidenz Grotesk bold
extended.” If “Berthold Akzidenz Grotesk bold extended” is not available use “Arial Black bold
uppercase.”
There may be high creative work performed by NGB that is designed based on very specific
campaign requirements, scope and limitations. Some of these designs may incorporate typeface
artwork. Generally, “fonts” are used as the primary digital delivery mechanism, whereas “typefaces”
represent the visual creative work. More specifically, “fonts” and “typefaces” are totally different
things. Graphic designers naturally choose typefaces for their products and in some situations use
fonts as the mechanism for execution with the finished art. However, it should be noted that not all
typefaces are made into computer fonts for the general computer users. Therefore, the ANG Graphic
Standards Manual identifies general Font families that are normally available to standard users for
continuity with ANG messaging and brand recognition. Additionally, these font families have defined
typefaces already, in order to assist with standard graphic design work. If any end-users believe there
is a “typeface” they want to use beyond the font families available in this document, they must contact
ANG Creative for approval.
