Green Council 2011

Parents , children and staff

were all concerned about the

number of cars near school at

the beginning and at the end

of the day.

Having more cars on the road

means more dangers for

cyclists and pedestrians.

It is also bad for the

environment , as cars emit

fumes which can damage the

air around us.

•Over half of you (56%)

said you enjoyed

walking and cycling to

school.

•This is great news for

your health as walking

and cycling are great

ways to keep you fit

and its great for the

environment.

•Well done keep it

going!

Just under half of you came to school in the car. There were many reasons for this. Some of you live further away, some of your parents have to go straight to work after dropping you off. Some parents are limited with time other parents enjoy using the car.

We would like to reduce the number of cars near our school to improve safety and the environment around us.

70% of your parents said they would use a Park and stride scheme if one was introduced and this is what we have done.

Rather than parents driving all

the way to school and clogging

up the roads near school.

Parents drive part of the way

and park in an arranged car

park. For us this is the Booths

Supermarket car park.

Then you can walk the rest of

the way to school.

This way you get some

exercise, the roads around

school are safer because there

are fewer cars. The

environment also benefits as

less fuel is consumed and so

there is less pollution.

Walking to school

Cycling to school

Riding a scooter to school

Using the park and stride scheme.

NO points will be awarded for

those who come in the car.

Even if you can ask

your parents to use

the park and stride

at least one day a

week the points will

count and you, your

parents and the

environment will

benefit.

Well that will count

as 5 points – one

for each day
