What to Expect at the Job Fair

Employers expect you to be prepared, dressed professionally, ask

thoughtful questions, have a polished resume

Employers want to meet people seeking information on career

opportunities and employment.

Some employers will instruct you to apply online.

Your goal should be to land an interview – not necessarily a job

offer.

Your goal is to make a positive impact in a short amount of time.

BEFORE the Job Fair

1. Review, research and make a list of employers to meet with

2. Prepare a resume for part-time / seasonal jobs and have it

reviewed by an Employment Advisor

3. Practice your introduction to an employer + Prepare a list of

questions you want to ask

4. Plan your strategy – visit booths that you interest you most

first

5. Be prepared to follow up after the fair – you may not be

hired on the spot

DAY OF the Job Fair

1. Print multiple copies of your resume in a

folder/portfolio

2. Print off the list of employers attending

the fair from HireCentennial

3. Dress in business casual attire

4. If possible, leave your backpack in your

locker

1. Be professional at all times

- polite, cell phone off, no food/drinks

- avoid just picking up swag/freebies from employer booths

2. Approach your targeted companies, and introduce yourself. Shake

hands firmly.

3. Be confident, smile, make eye contact. Ask meaningful questions.

Answer enthusiastically to employer’s questions.

4. Thank employer for his/her time, shake hands. Ask to leave your

resume, and request a business card for follow up.

Your Elevator Pitch

1. Introduce yourself

2. Interest in company, position

3. Summarize education, relevant experience & skills

Tip: Introduce yourself to the employer first, break the ice. It should be

a conversation, not a monologue!
