Safe Power Networks

Protecting Power Pole Networks & Increasing Productivity

Summary

meshnet Pty Ltd is the holding company meshnet owns Safe Power Network – SPN SPN: •  Monitors power pole stability and environmental

conditions •  Eliminates physical and manual inspection •  Creates an early warning system for unstable

poles •  Allows targeted pole strengthening or replacement •  Dramatically lowers pole initiated bushfires and

power outages •  Enhances capacity through the network

Summary

meshnet Pty Ltd offers SPN on a rental basis •  Time based (per month) •  Number of poles monitored

•  Long life agreement (circa pole lifetime)

Outcomes for Utility

SPN Materially Reduces •  Pole maintenance costs

•  Risk of, number of, COST OF pole initiated bushfires

•  Power outages

•  SPN removes manual inspections and people •  SPN increases management information on status of

the network, allows management intervention •  SPN optimises pole replacements

Outcomes for Utility

Over a 50 year pole life SPN measures pole stability over 5,000,000 times Current practice: 13 stability inspections

Power Network Issues

•  Common issues affecting the power network providers: –  Pole Stability –  Bushfires –  Pole Top Fires, Arcing –  Storms –  Accidents – vehicles, machinery

•  Networks are large, cover great areas and have poor communication – delayed response on isolating power to affected areas

•  Expensive multi million dollar insurance payouts due to loss of lives and property from fires started by falling poles and wires

Productivity Issues

•  Re-closers: –  Not necessarily in best design position due to

communications –  SPN Field Units have the capacity to open/

close re-closers anywhere within the network •  Status of Cross Arms

–  Cross Arms degrade faster than the poles and require more immediate inspection to ensure limited failures

–  Birds landing or nesting on Cross Arms –  SPN Field Units have the capacity to view

and compare Cross Arms monthly, remotely –  SPN Field Units detect the landing of birds

on the Cross Arms and provide a WAV file to scare away these birds

Increasing Capacity

•  Tension Monitoring – SPN Field Units connect to SPN

Satellite Field Units that monitor the Tension, Wind Speed and Wind Direction at each fixing point, enabling the utility to maximise network throughput over their current safety factor limits. Breaks in Tension also assist with the SWER fault checks (previously undetectable)

Pole Stability

•  SPN will detect poles that have become unstable

Bushfires

•  SPN will detect localised bushfires, providing rapid response from utility provider to fire services. SPN will also provide accurate wind speed and direction

Pole Top Fires, Arcing

•  SPN will detect pole top fires and arcing associated with dust build-up

©meshnet  pty  ltd  –  E:  info@meshnet-‐pl.com

Storms

•  SPN will detect drops in temperature and pressure associated with severe storms, as well as pole motion

©meshnet  pty  ltd  –  E:  info@meshnet-‐pl.com

Accidents

•  SPN will detect a collision enabling power to be isolated quickly

Insurance Payouts

•  SPN will provide the Power Network Providers with historical data of each asset that can be used as supporting evidence against a NOT AT FAULT claim

•  SPN will provide the Power Network Providers fast response times to notify Fire Rescue, Police, etc, for bushfires and emergencies that are captured by the SPN
