Certain weather phenomena are unique to specific regions.

Hurricanes A violent tropical storm

system that forms over warm waters.

Gets its energy from the water and then dies down when it hits land.

Occurs in the Atlantic Ocean.

Generally found east of the International Date Line.

Typhoons A violent tropical

storm that brings heavy rains and high winds.

Occurs in the Pacific Ocean.

Called hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean.

Forms over water. Found west of the

international date line.

Monsoons Seasonal winds that

blow over a continent for months at a time providing heavy rainfall.

Wind direction depends on the seasons – summer or winter.

Occurs in Southeast Asia.

Develop over land – Asia.

Occurs in the United States.

During spring and summer seasons.
