Uncertainty at Elland Road
Italian businessman, Massimo
Cellino, has seen his offer to buy a
majority stake in Football League
Championship giants, Leeds United,
fall through after his application was
rejected by the Football League.
Cellino, 57, has been
disqualified from buying the
Yorkshire club by the Football
League for failure to pay import tax
on a yacht he recently purchased.
Cellino attempted to buy a 75%
stake in Leeds United on the 31st
January but has since been knocked
back.
Following Tuesday’s 4-1
hammering away to Bournemouth,
United boss, Brian McDermott, said
that the club’s off-the-field issues
are “affecting his players”. The
defeat was the fourth in five games
for Leeds United, and although their
isn’t any real fear of relegation back
to League One for the supporters,
the future of the club is certainly
causing concern.
through and McDermott to be
reinstated by the club’s current
owners, GFH Capital, hours later.
Cellino has stated that he will
appeal the Football League’s decision
and that he feels a “responsibility to
the fans”. The Italian has been
bankrolling the club since January
and wants a return on his investment.
Owning a football club is not
something out of the ordinary for
Cellino who currently owns Italian
Serie A side Cagliari.
Brian McDermott will be
hoping the off-the-field problems do
not continue to affect the on-field
performance on Saturday, as Leeds
face a visit from Yorkshire
neighbours, Doncaster Rovers. A win
Crisis at Forest
Billy Davies has been relieved of his
duties as Nottingham Forest manger
following the clubs 5-0 defeat at the
hands of bitter rivals Derby County.
The sacking spells the end of Davies’
second reign over Forest having pre-
viously being sacked in 2011 after
spending three years in charge.
Forest chairman, Fawaz Al-
Hasawi has urged supporters to be
patient as he will not rush to replace
49 year old Davies.
Former Cardiff City and
Watford boss, Malky Mackay has been
linked as a strong contender for the
job, along with another former
Watford manager, Gianfranco Zola.
Ex-England boss, Glenn Hoddle, is
also rumoured to have been shortlisted
for the job.
Nottingham Forest are currently
sitting 7th in the table just outside of
the play-offs, two points behind 6th
placed Reading despite The Royal’s
3-1 home defeat to Barnsley.
Forest face Ipswich Town at Portman
Road this Saturday and will be hoping
they can turn their fortunes around.
Are Leicester Bottling It?
Leicester City may still be top of
the Championship, but recent results
may give their fans cause for concern.
The Foxes could only manage a draw
away to a struggling Blackburn Rovers
side last Saturday, and needed a last
gasp equaliser from goalkeeper,
Kasper Schmeichel, to rescue a point
at home to relegation zone Yeovil
Town in midweek. Whilst they are still
picking up points, a relentless Burnley
keep biting at their heels having won
their last three games. The two sides
meet each other at Turf Moor on
Saturday for what could prove to be a
turning point for both clubs.

affair.

It has been a testing few
months for former Rangers and
Everton captain David Weir; sacked
after just thirteen games in charge of
Sheffield United, the 43 year old
Scot has had a real test of character,
but is now revelling in his new
assistant managers role at League
One promotion candidates
Brentford.
Football League Weekly
managed to meet up with Scotland’s
oldster ever international for an
exclusive interview.
How did you find the transi-
tion from playing professional
football to management with
Sheffield United and what
difficulties did you face?
“I think it’s a big transition; it’s
the same industry but a completely
different job. It’s sort of going from
one profession to another, like
going from a dentist to a doctor.
You can try and prepare yourself
and do all the courses that you need
to do, and give yourself the best
chance but it is still a different
experience.”
What characteristics
did you pick up from managers
whilst you were playing which
have helped you at your jobs with
Sheffield United and Brentford?
“I think they are all different,
the key thing is you have just got
to be yourself. I don’t think you can
use someone else's characteristics,
you just have to be yourself, use how
you are as a person and transmit that
across.”
How are you finding the
assistant managers job at
Brentford?
“I’m really enjoying it. I’m still
as involved as I was at Sheffield
United and still able to give my input
and discuss the issues I have and like
working with so many different
people.”
How is the season going and
which areas do you think Brent-
ford need to improve upon as a
whole?
“The season is going pretty well,
we are currently second, we just
need to keep doing what we’re doing
and keep picking up points. We need
to remain as positive as we have
been and keep our outlook consistent
by trying to win games, even when
we’re ahead we keep trying to score
goals. Keeping our momentum is
key.”
Do you have any future
aspirations with regards to
management in football?
“Not long term to be honest, I
am enjoying what I’m doing at
the moment; you can never really
plan that far ahead in football
because it’s such a short term
industry. You
just have to
focus on next
week rather than the
distant future, at the
moment my
main focus is
Brentford.”
Is it easy to pick up skills and
did you learn a lot from
Sheffield United to take with you to
Brentford?
No matter what you are doing,
whether it be a good or bad
experience, you pick up things and
their are probably some things that
you would do differently. If you come
across a situation in the future you
might handle it differently. I am
constantly learning and trying to get
better, I think that’s just the way of
life.”
Things have been going
according to plan so far this season for
the Bees, who currently sit in second
place but are facing a tough trip to
Oldham Athletic on Saturday
following their 3-0 loss away to
Rotherham United on Tuesday night.
Coventry Rise to see off
Stevenage
Coventry have ended their run
of four straight league games without a
win after a 1-0 victory over Stevenage
at Sixfields Stadium on Wednesday.
Dan Seaborne scored the only goal in
a tight encounter between two teams
fighting for survival, but the score-line
could have been totally different on
another day with Francois Zoko’s
header hitting the post and Luke
Freeman saw his effort cleared off the
line, before Stevenage keeper, Steve
Arnold saved Callum Wilson’s penalty.
The win moves the sky blues six
points clear of the relegation zone and
leaves Stevenage rock bottom.
Seaborne nodded home after
67minutes from John Fleck’s corner in
front of a weak, 1,697 crowd.
Coventry City now face a difficult trip
to Crewe Alexandra on Saturday,
whilst Stevenage face a Port Vale side
eager to make the play-offs.

World Cup “ Its Just like watching Brazil ’’
IN
With less than 76 days till the start of the world cup the guys at Football League Weekly
have decided to make a world cup 11 made up of entirely Football League players. Did any
players from your team make the cut? Joey Barton certainly didn’t...sorry Joey!
In 2006 League 1 side
Port Vale’s midfielder
Chris Burchall, born in
Stafford, England, repre-
sented Trinidad and
Tobago as his mother
was born in the First
port of Spain. He also
played against the Thee
Lions in the group stage!
Ceasar – The QPR and
Brazilian shot stopper, is
perhaps the Football
League’s best bet of lifting
the world cup trophy. On loan to
Toronto FC from Rangers, the well-
travelled ‘keeper has won the UEFA
Champions League, the FIFA Club
World Cup and Serie A Goalkeeper
of the Year title on two separate
occasions. With 78 caps for the host
nation already to his name and Bra-
zil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari already
confirming César will be going to
the 2014 World Cup, glory could be
Ekotto- Another QPR
player, and another well-
known name on our list.
On loan from parent club
Tottenham, the French born Assou-
Ekotto currently has 18 caps for
Cameroon. At 29, Rio 2014 could
well be a last shot at the finals for the
highly regarded left back.
Neill – Currently at
Watford, the former
Australia captain has
96 caps for the Soc-
ceroos. He also has experience
of World Cup football, with
appearances in the 2006 World
Cup and 2010 World Cup under
his belt. However, with two
successive 6-0 losses in World
Cup warm up matches seeing
coach Holger Osieck losing his
job it’s still yet to be seen,
whether Neill will be represent-
ing the Football league in Rio.
Jara- A favourite with Not-
tingham Forest fans, Jara will
be kept busy in Rio when he
encounters some of the best
players in the World. With Chile
drawn against both the Netherlands
and holders Spain the versatile full
back is sure to have his hands full.
Onyewu – With an
International career
spanning a decade,
Sheffield Wednesday’s
Oguchialu Onyewu is one of the
most experienced players in our
starting X1. Onyewu, similarly to
Julio Ceasar has had a spell with
some of Europe’s top clubs, in-
cluding Italian giants AC Milan
and Portuguese side Malaga. On-
yewu also has experience on the
biggest stage, with appearances
for USA at both the 2006 and
2010 World Cups.
Beausejour- Gonzalo
Jara’s national counter-
part, Jean Beausejour also
faces an unenviable task
this summer in Rio. After contro-
versy surrounding Beausejour under
pervious manager Claudio Borghi,
he has since been restored to the
national side. The Wigan midfielder
also played a part in the 2010 World
Cup scoring the only goal against
Honduras in the group stages,
Chile’s first win at a World cup
since 1962.
Espinosa – Wigan
midfielder and FA Cup
winner Roger
Espinoza is hoping to
guide Honduras out of their
group and into the knockout
stages for the first time.
Espinoza played in two qualify-
ing matches for Honduras and
also took part in the 2012 Lon-
don Olympics. He an important
player for Honduras and a
player to keep an eye on in Bra-
zil.
Ghoochannejhad- Offi-
cially the longest name in
the Football League and
despite representing the
Netherlands at every youth level, the
Charlton forward will relish the
challenge of being Iran’s top goal
threat come the World Cup. With 7
goals in his last 7 international
matches, key to Iran finishing top of
their World Cup Qualifying Group
the 26 year old is ready to shock the
World in Rio.
Kranjcar- With perhaps the most
impressive international stats of
our X1 on loan QPR starlet Niko
Kranjcar has already represented
Croatia in the 2006 FIFA World Cup,
UEFA Euro 2008 and UEFA Euro 2012.
He also played a major part in Croatia’s
qualification for the tournament, scoring
against eventual qualifying group winners
Belgium. Kranjcar is regarded as a definite
starter in Rio and features in the opening
match of the tournament against teammate
Julio Ceasar’s Brazil.
Lee Chung-Yong- Nick-
named the “Blue dragon”
Lee is widely regarded as one
of the top young South Ko-
rean footballing prospects. The twenty
five year old is currently at Bolton
Wanderers and featured in the 2010
World Cup. Lee scored an injury time
goal in the first half against Argentina
and again in the round of 16 match
against Uruguay in South Korea's 2–1
defeat. He also captained the Korean
side in a friendly against Switzerland
and scored the winning goal with an
87th minute header. With over 50 caps
Lee will look to be the star of the show
once again in Brazil.
Djebbeour – After recently
joining Nottingham Forest
on a two and a half year
deal ‘The Terrorist’ as he is
known by his machine gun goal cele-
brations has been well received by
The Reds’ faithful. Djebbeour also
has international experience repre-
senting his country at the 2010 FIFA
World Cup in South Africa and al-
though he failed to score, will be hop-
ing for some improvement this time
around in Rio.

CHESTERFIELD CHASE CONTINUES
Rochdale still in top contention of
automatic promotion , The Dale put in
another impressive performance on a cold
Tuesday night which saw them run out 3-0
winners against relegation strugglers
Portsmouth . Rochdale seemed very
comfortable and had a sense of free
flowing football to their game. The
stats showed that Rochdale domi-
nated the game having had 58% posses-
sion after the 90minutes.
Goals from Matthew Lund,
Ian Henderson and Peter Vin-
centi sealed the victory to keep
the Dale top of the Skybet
League Two.
After a brief dip in form it was business as
usual for Chesterfield who kept promotion
dreams alive thanks to James O’Shea who
headed home after 19 minutes. The home
side then continued to pile on the pressure
keeping the hands Morecambe’s keeper
Ryan Williams warm who kept his side in
the game.
Williams was then further tested with
two free kicks from Tommy Lee be-
fore the home side was then kept out
by the woodwork as Sam Morsy saw
his effort cannon off the cross bar.
Chesterfield are now sitting comforta-
bly in the automatic playoff
places although have played a
game more than all of their clos-
est rivals. Morecambe have now
failed to win any of their last
four games and are sat in 15th.
Burton v
Wycombe
Burton have kept their promotion
dreams after pouring more misery on
relegation strugglers Wy-
combe. Mcgurk’s 54th minute close
range strike was enough to separate
the sides leaving Burton just 6 points
of automatic promotion.
Cheltenham v
Goals either side of half time ensure
Scunthorpe stay hot n the heels of the
league leaders, Rochdale. Winnall’s great
form continues after his double sinks
Cheltenham to 14th in the League.
Dag&Red v
Accrington
With Dagenham & Redbridge having seen
most of the possession (55%) they failed
to capitalise and move further towards
the play-off places. The Hosts have now
made it seven games unbeaten, leaving
them 7 points short of the play-offs.
Whereas Accrington have only lost one of
their last six encounters.
Fleetwood v
Bristol Rovers
Fleetwood left six points off top three
with a game in hand after a convincing
win at home. Sarcevic, Roberts and
Ball were the scorers to help Fleet-
wood's victory. Rovers are now left
just three points off the drop zone.
Hartlepool
v Mansfield
James Jennings surprising double
inspired Mansfield comeback away
from home against Hartlepool.
This result leaves Mansfield 17th in
the league after thirty nine games
played. Hartlepool remain 11th
despite the 4-1 home defeat.
Newport v Bury
Shakers keeper Brian Jensen’s
multiple saves allow Bury to take a
valuable point away at Newport.
Frustration grows at Newport, with
another draw making it only one
win in their last ten games.
Newport are sat comfortably in
12th position.
Northampton v
Wimbledon
Jack Midson’s sending off left
Wimbledon a hard task away
from home. A late stoppage time
equaliser gave Wimbledon a point
from this tough encounter. This
result leaves Northampton two
points from safety.
Plymouth v Exeter
After falling behind
to Plymouth, Exeter show great
character to come away with a
win on the road. Richards late
strike Denies the Pilgrims a
chance to move into promotion
places, leaving them three points
adrift.
RED HOT ROCHDALE RUN RIOT
York v Torquay
Will Hayhurst opened
the scoring on the 11 minute mark.
York held on to stay in the play offs
with 58 points, whilst a second consecu-
tive defeat leaves Torquay rooted to
bottom of the table on 36 points with
thirty nine games played.
Sam Winnall is Top
scorer of League two
with 21 Goals.
Kevan Hurst has more
assist than any EPL
player this season

Player of the Week Ishmael Miller may have been loaned out
three times in three seasons by parent club
Nottingham Forest, but he is certainly
enjoying his second spell on loan at Yeovil
Town. The 27 year old has netted 7 times in
11 games for The Glovers this season,
including two goals against Wigan Athletic in
a thrilling 3-3 midweek draw and a goal in a 2-
2 draw with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday,
making Miller our Player of the Week., de-
spite missing a penalty in the latter match.
Make sure you select Miller for your squads
for next Saturday’s fixture as Yeovil Town
face Barnsley in a relegation battle.

Away Days “We do love playing away…..”
TURF MOOR
@FootballLeagueAwayDays
THAT’S MOOR LIKE IT! Turf tops the lot
for nostalgic feel
as we head to
east Lancashire
The away changing rooms
at turf moor are not to
Premier League regulations.
In 2009 Alex Ferguson de-
manded that Manchester
united got the facilities of
the home changing rooms!
They lost the game!
As we plummeted into
Burnley through the roam-
ing Lancashire hills on a
windy Saturday afternoon
none of us were particularly
expectant of a brilliant away
day. The weather was, crisp
and cold and the wind whis-
tled through the air almost
taunting us as outsiders. Our
attitudes soon changed
upon arrival at Turf Moor
however. The Bob Lord and
David Fishwick stands are
something to be admired in
modern era of football and
although lacking in facilities
what Turf Moor does make
up for is character. Wooden
seats, No flash 42” plasmas
on the walls of the toilets
and the dripping Tin Roof
quickly reminded us what it
was to be a football fan.
The mixture of the cold
combined with the
presence of the old fashioned
roof and acoustics made for a
VERY loud atmosphere and by
the end of the day we were
wishing more stands in the coun-
try were still like this. We have
heard there were plans to re-
build the David Fishwick at one
point but we think its fine just as
it is. A must go to for any avid
away fan. As one fan said to me
on the way out “The food is cold
but the grounds got soul.”
Turf Moor lies just east of Burnley town centre.
The walk from Burnley Manchester Road station to
the ground is around 15 minutes. The walk from
the town centre will take no more than 10 minutes.
The bus station on Manchester Road is less than a
mile away.
From the M65, exit at junction 10. From the ramp
follow the signs that say either Burnley FC, Turf
Moor, or Towneley Hall.
Address: Harry Potts Way, Burnley, BB10 4BX
Getting there!
Where is it? Turf moor is located in
the town centre
Burnley itself sits in the
heart of Lancashire
with close links to
Manchester Preston,
Bolton and Wigan via
the M60,M66 and
M65. Most notably
though is the distance
between Burnley and
Blackburn. The two are
just 8 miles apart
bringing about one of
the fiercest rivalries in
English football
There are no specific pubs for
away fans at turf moor although
the cricket club located behind
the David Fishwick stand is the
place to be if you are following
your team. It provides a good
selection of both Ales and Lagers
and is in a great location!
There are two stations in
Burnley the first of which is
Burnley Manchester Road
which is easily accessible
from Manchester, Leeds,
and Preston and just a 15
minute walk from the
ground. The other is Burnley
central which re recommend
be avoided at all costs. 1
platform, old trains and the
line of often shut!
Cricket Club -(Turf Moor) £6.00
Dorris Street (BB113DL) £5.00
Minimal street parking!
FOOD DRINK Atmosphere VALUE Cold food, average drink and a brilliant at-
mosphere and not too hard hitting for the
bank balance. A must go to for all football
fans before Burnley either get promoted of
replace their nostalgic away stand!
Cold, lack of selection Average Low roof, great acoustics, brilliant! Good Value
