Sonia’s classroom is quite different from a

Also there aren’t any chairs and there’s only
one table opposite the door. The table is for
the TV and DVD player.
All the students sit on the floor or stand up
and the teacher does the same. It’s not a
problem to sit on the floor because there’s a
nice carpet. The classroom has got four big

My grandparents’ school
When my grandparents were children, some
school subjects were different. French was
the normal foreign language in British schools
then. Now some people learn German or
Spanish and only some people learn French.
There weren’t usually any TVs in the school
and there weren’t any CD players, so foreign
language lessons weren’t fun!
Science was a school subject but the way
you study it now is very different. Also,
computer studies wasn’t a school subject
because there weren’t any computers!
Some subjects were the same as now, like
geography. Art and music lessons were also
similar – most people don’t study pop music
at school! Were there exams when my
grandparents were at school? Of course
there were!

Dear Caterina,
We’re going to go on a school trip to Alton
Towers next week. It’s an enormous theme
park. It’s going to be really exciting!
First, my friend Elizabeth and I are going to
go on a ride called Nemesis. It’s really big
and fast and you must be 1.4m tall to go on
this ride. We mustn’t wear caps and we
mustn’t take bags on the ride.
Tara isn’t going to go on Nemesis – she
doesn’t like fast rides!
Then the others are going to go on a water
ride called The Flume. I’m not going to go on
The Flume because I don’t like water!
We must take some money with us – we’re
going to go to a souvenir shop and I’m going
to buy an Alton Towers T-shirt.
Are you going to go on any school trips?
Love,
Freya

On a typical day, I get up at eight o’clock. For breakfast, I have
cereal with milk, a glass of orange juice and some toast and fruit
– usually an apple or an orange. I don’t drink any tea or coffee.
After breakfast, I start training. I go running or I go to the gym.
After training, I eat a sandwich and an apple. Then I have an
hour or two before lunch. Sometimes I talk to people from
television or radio. Or if I haven’t got anything special to do, I
have a rest or I play a quick game on my PlayStation.
For lunch, I usually have chicken with some pasta and
vegetables. I don’t eat any eggs – not because I can’t, but
because I don’t like them. I drink at least two litres of water a
day. I don’t drink cola because I don’t want any caffeine – it isn’t
good for me.
Then, it’s more training. I usually run six days a week for about
four hours a day.
In the evening, I usually have fish with potatoes, or sometimes
meat with rice. I prefer white meat, like chicken.
I don’t eat any fast food – hamburgers or hot dogs – because I
know it isn’t good for me. If I’m hungry during the day, I have an
apple or a banana.

Girl Last Saturday, I went to the British Museum in London with
my friends, Vicky and Helen. We arrived at 10 o’clock and
bought a guidebook. It was £5.00. We visited the Egyptian
rooms first. We saw the tombs of Egyptian kings and
queens, and learned all about life in Ancient Egypt. Then we
watched a video about sport in Ancient Greece. The
Olympic games started in Greece about 3,000 years ago.
Olympic athletes were really strong. They trained for 10
months before the games and ate special food.
After lunch, we went to the shop. Vicky bought a T-shirt
with some Greek writing on it. Helen bought some pens
and pencils. I bought a book about Egyptian queens. It was
a really good day.

Boy Yeah … What are you going to do this weekend?
Girl Well, I’m going to go to the beach with my cousins

Girl It’s a small beach near Bournemouth. It’s really nice – there
are some picnic tables under some trees next to the beach.
We’re going to have a picnic lunch then we’re going to play
volleyball.
Boy That sounds good.
Girl Yeah. Do you want to come?
Boy Yes, but I can’t.
