Hip Hop Fashion Epidemic

Hip hop fever is spreading around the world at an alarming rate. Everywhere you look in society Hip hop is having some sort of influence. One the areas that is most affected by Hip hop is the fashion industry. Hip hop has led fashion designers to focus their lines a more street and urban flare.

Everyone Needs Clothes

Clothes are something that everyone needs clothes, but I don’t see anything wrong with buying clothes that look good.

Rocawear

• The Rocawear clothing company was started in 1999 by Damon Dash, Kareeme Burkes, and Jay-Z

• The company has annual sales of over $700 million

• In 2006 Jay-Z took over the company. In March 2007 the rights of the company to Iconix Brand Group for $204 million cash.

ecko unltd.

• The ecko clothing company began with its creator Marc ecko hand drawing his designs on T-Shirts

• Attention was drawn to the company when celebrities like Spike Lee began wearing ecko

• The company gained national acclaim in 1993 when its designs appeared on Good Morning America

• After this the company quickly expanded producing footwear, leather goods, and a women’s line.

Sean John• The Sean John clothing line was

started in 1998 by rap mogul P. Diddy

• The line is arguably the most famous clothing line launched by a celebrity

• In 2004 P. Diddy was named Best Menswear Designer of the year by the Council of Fashion Designers

• Recently the company released its first men’s fragrance called “Unforgivable”. The fragrance replaced Giorgio Armani’s Acqua di Giò as the top-selling men's fragrance in the US.www.seanjohn.com

Phat Farm

• Phat Farm was established in 1992 by Russel Simmons. In 2004 he sold the company for $140 million

• The company’s broken flag logo represents the separated state that the world is in

• Phat Farm also has a female line called Baby Phat and also makes footwear.

Starting Up an Urban Clothing Company

There are many young entrepreneurs out there who would like to start a clothing company. To help these people out there are many books about starting small businesses. There is even a documentary about how to make it in the fashion industry.
