FACE COVERING EXPECTATIONS

K-4 Students

9-12 Students

Health appeal process for face covering with district nurses:○ Appeal process and forms available by Aug. 1st.○ Face shields and other measures to be approved

through the appeal process.○ District to work with health care professionals and

Cuyahoga County Board of Health.

All teachers, staff and students (grade K-12) are required to wear face masks or face shields at all times.

● The district or an individual building may be directed to close by the Ohio Department of Health.

● If the Ohio Department of Education or Cuyahoga County Board of Health develop “district-specific” risk levels, those may become triggers for change.

● If teacher and staff COVID-19 absenteeism outpaces available substitutes, school may shift to virtual learning.

● WCSD will use this chart as our guide, but please wait for communication from the district as to the date of the instructional shift (All-In, Hybrid or Virtual).

OHIO COVID-19 RISK LEVEL GUIDELINES FOR THE PUBLIC

QUARANTINING PROTOCOLSWestlake City School District is currently working with health officials on district-wide quarantine protocols. Once these protocols are finalized, they will be shared with parents and community members.

• Westlake will still be offering transportation services to all eligible families. Survey results showed an overwhelming majority of parents plan to transport their own child.

• An opt-in form was sent out to parents to sign up for district provided transportation and will be sent again this week.

• Face masks/shields are required at all times on buses by both students and staff members.

• During a Hybrid model, we understand that parents may need childcare for their student when he/she is not scheduled to attend school.  

• Westlake will offer before school care, after school care, and full-day Project Link services to students in grades K-8 (per space available).

• A sign-up link will be sent to parents this week.

• Students will be fully supervised, socially distant and have the opportunity to complete required virtual coursework throughout their days with Project Link.

TRANSPORTATION PROJECT LINK

SAFETY PROCEDURES & STUDENT, STAFF AND PARENT EXPECTATIONS

Safety procedures and student, staff and parent expectations will cover the following areas:

An example of the Drop off, pick up and visitors safety procedures and expectations are as follows.

Parents/Caregivers● Conduct a student wellness check including temperature prior to

sending a student to school. Students with temperatures over 100°F should stay home.

● Provide a mask or face shield for your student to wear on the bus and while at school. Masks or shields are required for all students grades K - 12.

● Limit visits to school as much as possible.● Conduct a personal health screening prior to coming to a school

building and do not come if you are running a fever higher than 100o or showing other symptoms.

● Follow posted guidelines and read all signage whenever entering the building.

● Wearing a mask or face shield is required when entering the building.Students

● Wearing a mask or face shield is required when entering, exiting, or moving around the building.

● Report directly to your assigned classroom/area upon arrival to school.● Maintain maximum physical distance from peers whenever possible in

hallways, common areas, offices, etc.

Teachers/Assistants● Supervise hallways and common areas to ensure students are reporting immediately to

assigned class and not congregating in hallways or common areas.● Provide reminders, issue warnings, contact parents/caregivers, and report repeated

expectation violators to the office.Custodians

● Disinfect common areas based on a schedule provided by school administration. This includes but is not limited to door handles, handrails, toilets, stalls, counters, and sinks.

● Ensure designated doors are propped open at arrival and dismissal.● Ensure designated doors are closed after arrival and dismissal.

Administration● Ensure adequate supervision is available on bus lots, in parking lots, and in common areas of

the building. ● Ensure proper signage is installed in hallways and common areas.● Ensure supplies are readily available for custodians.● Provide reminders, issue warnings, contact parents/caregivers, and issue consequences to

repeated expectation violators. ● Ensure designated doors are propped open at arrival and dismissal.● Ensure designated doors are closed after arrival and dismissal.● Eliminate parent and community volunteers to ensure safety and health of students and

staff. ● Implement staggered dismissal times if necessary to maximize physical distancing and

● Due to preschool guidelines, assigned staff must check temperatures of preschool students upon arrival.

HEALTH & SAFETY PARTNERS

Westlake City School District will be be sharing safety plans and guidelines with representatives from the Westlake Police Department and University Hospitals St. John Medical Center. Their partnership and input is greatly appreciated.
