"With respect to legalization of marijuana or any drug, there's a vigorous debate, but there's a lot of red flags about moving in that direction. I think we have to be
aware and sensitive to the fact that many in law enforcement, many crime fighters, have serious
reservations about going that route."7June2011 - "Canada pledges $5-million to fight drug crime in the Americas"

“However, the very same day, the so-called “queen of pot”, Jodie Emery, announced that she had been approached by the Liberal
Party to run as a candidate in Vancouver East. She explained that the reason she wanted to run as a Liberal candidate was to show
that the Liberals are serious about smoking marijuana as a normal, everyday Canadian activity. In her own words, “It would basically be
to say, ‘The Liberals support legalization’.”As a mother, I am shocked by the reckless plan being put forward by the leader of the Liberal Party. Our Conservative government will continue to crack down on criminals and drug dealers, unlike the
leader of the Liberal Party, who continues to try to push dangerous and illegal drugs on our children.”

Angus says as long as marijuana is illegal, it’ll continue to be run by biker gangs. He says if it were to be kept under Federal control, how pot is sold and who sells it can be monitored. "I think we’re better to have an honest discussion about it as opposed to standing up and pretending we’re all going to look down on those who do because we know lots of people who are very respectable who smoke pot."

"I remember that my late mother—may God rest her soul—was convinced at one time that a young man who tried smoking a marijuana joint would definitely end up a wreck. Even though she and I did not do drugs, we had many discussions on this issue, and I tried to prove to that she was wrong. However, her perception went beyond the scientific facts that I could show. This revealed something even more extraordinary: the fear of the unknown and the fear of something we do not know how to fight. Well, it seems to me there is only one effective way to fight fear, and it is called education."
