Prepared forSuccessThe coursework in the exercise scienceprogram prepares students forprofessional certification in the fieldsof health, fitness, diseasemanagement, or strength andconditioning. Students usually pursuecertifications from the AmericanCollege of Sports Medicine, NationalStrength and ConditioningAssociation, National Academy ofSports Medicine, or American Council

on Exercise. Our graduates maintain anearly 100 percent pass rate for thesenational certification exams. Typicalcareers for graduates in this fieldinclude personal training at fitnesscenters, performance training forathletes and teams, research, worksitehealth promotion, and coaching. Manystudents choose to continue theireducation in graduate school.

Why UW-Eau ClaireHands-On ExperienceStudents put their education intopractice with outreach programsoffered by the Department ofKinesiology, helping communitymembers from diverse populationsimprove their health while alsogaining valuable experience that willgive them an edge in their career. Research OpportunitiesStudents enjoy individualizedattention from dedicated faculty asthey dive into their research interest,and they collaborate with world-classphysicians under the new mastercollaborative research agreementbetween UW-Eau Claire and MayoClinic Health System. Exercise science

majors complete a senior researchproject, and outstanding research issubmitted by faculty to nationalscholarly journals, like theInternational Journal of Research inExercise Physiology--a peer-reviewedjournal founded for the purpose ofpublishing undergrad studentresearch and providingundergraduates with valuableexperience in the peer-review andpublication process.

Innovative FacilitiesThe Kinesiology Department isdedicated to providing hands-on workthat sets our students apart. Outside ofthe classroom, students work in theExercise Physiology Lab, a researchfacility where they get hands-onexperience evaluating humanperformance and researching fitnessand performance. The ExercisePhysiology Lab is expanding in size toallow even more undergraduate-levelresearch. Preliminary plans have alsobeen laid out for the Sonnentag Eventand Recreation Complex. As currentlyenvisioned, the complex will includeYMCA, UW-Eau Claire and Mayo ClinicHealth System wellness, aquatics andrecreation facilities, providing evenmore opportunity for kinesiologystudents to have professionalexperiences.
