Started in 2008

Began with one student’s desire to improve water quality in

Orongo

Team has made 6 trips to the village

Implementation

Built 15 filters with the help of the community

Used locally available materials

Emphasis on community ownership and

sustainability

Irrigation Project

Long Term Goal: Povery Reduction

Help people move from subsistence farming to farming for

profit

Allows for additional growing seasons

Reduces risks

Community Mobilization

Partnered with the Ministry of Irrigation

Met with village elders to discuss overall goals

Held meetings with farmers and formed a committee

Pilot Irrigation Schemes

Use existing technologies Small diesel pumps PVC pipes

Developing the Nyamthoi Orongo Program committee

Large Scale Irrigation Scheme

Pump water from Lake Victoria

Allow farmers to tap into a piped system
