It is already the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time, and next weekend will be the last Sunday before Advent observed as Jesus King of the Universe. Meanwhile, on Thursday November 21st at 7 p.m. you are invited for a Civil-Religious Service with participation of other religious leaders and pastors to lead us in prayer in preparation for Thanksgiving. Each leader and pastor will come with their choir and representatives to take part in our Thanksgiving Service. It is a great opportunity for us to get to know other religious communities, their traditions, their role in the life of their adherences. For this service we invited the choir from Sacred Heart Church in Detroit, the same as last year. It is a very vibrant group of singers who will uplift our hearts and souls and get them ready for the spirt of giving and Thanksgiving. Among the invited parishes, Fr. Nick Zukowski and his parishioners confirmed their participation. There will be representatives from Islamic Organization of North America (IONA), Imam Mustapha Elturk, Metro Detroit Family Church, Pastor David Kasbow, Common Word Alliance, Imam Arif Huskic, and First United Methodist Church of Warren, Rev. Melissa Claxton. I hope that some others will confirm their presence. I hope that civil authorities, including newly elected, will join us on this special evening. After the service there will be refreshments. I want to congratulate those who were elected to office of Mayor and City Council. Please notice that the religious communities are asked by some citizens of our city to get help when they are in need and we help them. Let me mention some of the ways we help: Food Pantry, Warming Center, Christmas Giving Tree, School Supplies, Coat & Blanket Drive, utility bills, vouchers for gasoline, vouchers for Thrift Store. Visitation of sick and homebound and Pastoral Counseling is also offered through our parish as well as prayer support group, grieving counseling and Sacrament of Mercy. Some of these activities are offered by St. Vincent de Paul and Christian Service, which our parishioners support. The media and civil authorities should notice the great help that is offered by religious communities and inform the public about the good deeds we do. I want to express gratitude to our Senior Citizens of our parish and all those who are using our facility for their meetings. It is good for seniors, especially those who are alone to come together to talk, to eat and to play. St. Faustina Parish loves seniors and stands for them. Many thanks to their leaders: Mrs. Dolores Schreiber, President, Joan English, Inspiration Readings, Carol Van Houw, Vice President, Armando DeNardis, Second Vice President, Camilla Uryga, Secretary, Claudia Murphy, Treasurer and Paulina Grillo, Director of Publicity for their service to the seniors for the past six years. Thank you for your time and effort in keeping the Seniors Club alive at St. Faustina. The new officers for 2020 are: Norma Rea, President, Linda Kubiak, Vice President, Carol Van Houw, Secretary and Claudia Murphy, Treasurer. Congratulations to the new officers. I wish you a lot of inspiration to run this group of our citizens. You have my support.
God Bless,
Fr. Bogdan

Use Your Practical Skills to Help Neighbors in Need!
Volunteers are greatly needed to help frail, older and disabled adults in our community with
minor home repairs, indoor/outdoor chores, and basic housekeeping.
For a frail older adult or a person with disabilities, simple tasks like dusting and vacuuming, changing light bulbs or raking leaves can be impossible. Many minor home repairs are often well beyond their abilities, and far too expensive for them to purchase professionally. The Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Program helps our older and disabled neighbors with such tasks so they can remain safe and independent in their own homes. If you can help weekly, monthly or even just a couple times a year, please call us today at 855.88.CCSEM (22736) - toll free. The time you give will make a real difference in someone’s life.

Stewardship Thoughts
Today’s apocalyptic Scripture passages challenge us to reflect on the end times. In the first Reading, from the Book of the Prophet Malachi, he forewarns of ruin for evildoers and healing for the just. St. Paul, in his Second Letter to the Thessalonian community, encourages perseverance through toil and drudgery and not being busybodies. In St. Luke’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of natural disasters, including earthquakes, famines, and plagues, as well as wars, and even persecutions, before His second coming. Deepening our discipleship in Christ leads to a personal relationship with Him and fortifies and strengthens us. Pray daily and attend Mass frequently to partake in the Eucharist for Christ’s strength during difficult times. As Jesus states: By your perseverance, you will secure your lives.

Gospel Reflection (Adapted from Celebrating Sunday for Catholic Families by Karen O’Malley)
As the liturgical year ends soon, our readings at Mass focus on the end times. This week, we hear Jesus predict the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem, an unfathomable prospect to his listeners. Jesus warns them (and us) that even in the face of much destruction and evil, they should not give in to terror. We must remain strong, hoping in God and working for good. Though life may seem terrible and hopeless at times, God’s morning light will overtake the darkness of night. Your strong faith and trust in God will help you to respond to worries, fears, and crises throughout your life. Set aside time every day to spend with God. Talk to Him. He always listens.

The Best is Yet to Come!
There was a young woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her things 'in order,' she contacted her Pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes. She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in. Everything was in order and the Pastor was preparing to leave when the young woman suddenly remembered something very important to her. "There's one more thing," she said excitedly. "What's that?" came the Pastor's reply. "This is very important," the young woman continued. "I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand." The Pastor stood looking at the young woman, not knowing quite what to say. "That surprises you, doesn't it?" the young woman asked. "Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request," said the Pastor. The young woman explained. "My grandmother once told me this story, and from that time on I have always tried to pass along its message to those I love and those who are in need of encouragement. In all my years of attending socials and dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, "Keep your fork." It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming .... like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with substance!" "So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder... "What's with the fork?" Then I want you to tell them: "Keep your fork ... the best is yet to come." The Pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the young woman good-bye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew that the young woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did. She had a better grasp of what heaven would be like than many people twice her age, with twice as much experience and knowledge. She KNEW that something better was coming. At the funeral people were walking by the young woman's casket and they saw the cloak she was wearing and the fork placed in her right hand. Over and over, the Pastor heard the question, "What's with the fork?" And over and over he smiled. During his message, the Pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the young woman shortly before she died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. He told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either. He was right. So the next time you reach down for your fork let it remind you, ever so gently, that the best is yet to come. Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. Cherish the time you have, and the memories you share. Being friends with someone is not an opportunity, but a sweet responsibility. And just remember ... keep your fork! The BEST is yet to come!
THANK YOU! St. Vincent de Paul would like to express our sincere thanks to all who attended our French Toast Breakfast Fundraiser. It was well attended and everyone enjoyed the menu. We truly appreciate the support that we have received from our parishioners for this event and throughout the year. You are helping us help others who are in need. Happy Thanksgiving to all, and God Bless St. Faustina Parishioners!

THE GIVING TREE Advent will soon be here and we want to encourage everyone to participate in the Giving Tree again this year. It is one way of remembering and living out what Jesus came to show us – that we are brothers and sisters and are called to love one another. Each ornament will have the name of a gift that is needed and these gifts will be delivered to the following groups:
Families of St. Faustina Parish Pregnancy Support Centers – Multiple Locations Lighthouse Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries – Roseville Department of Health & Human Services – Macomb County Nativity of Our Lord – Detroit St. Dominic Outreach Center – Detroit St. Patrick Senior Center – Detroit St. Vincent de Paul Justice Initiative – Detroit
To participate simply follow the following directions: 1. Select an ornament from the tree. 2. Purchase the item. 3. Wrap it with Christmas paper or place it in a Christmas bag. Personal care items do not require
wrapping. Just place it in a sturdy box or bag. Cash gifts and gift cards may be dropped off at the office or put in the collection basket. Also, please do not wrap gifts going to Pregnancy Support Center and Nativity of Our Lord.
4. Tie the ornament on the gift SECURELY. 5. Bring the gift back to the church by Sunday, December 8, 2019. 6. Place the gift under the tree. The gifts will be packed up on December 8. Pickup and/or delivery will be the following day. The reason why we deliver these gifts so early is because the organizations need enough time to unpack, organize and to distribute them before Christmas.
Thank you, Christian Service Commission
