Project Management.• Over the last 9 years I have been working in various technical

and functional positions at NAU. • Currently, I am in the role of Project Manager for various

enterprise level projects including our recent upgrade from HCM 9.0 to HCM 9.2.

Historical review of NAU Project Management

• Outside consulting firms tasked with PM duties

• Rotational selection of staff for PM roles

• Beginning stages of Project Management Office within Information Technology Services

• SharePoint offers a wide range of built in features• SP 2013 introduces a ‘store’ for purchasing additional features

• Incorporates MS Office tools, which most users are familiar with

• Reduced Cost/Maintenance • Many institutions already have SharePoint

• Easily reuse templates for new projects

Why Microsoft SharePoint?

• Integration with MS Project• InfoPath forms• Microsoft Office tool integrations• Customization of list views

SharePoint features leveraged by NAU

Integration with MS Project• SharePoint will integrate with MS Project and MS Project

Server• Built-in Task lists can be linked directly to MS Project files• Status Indicators can be created based off of Project

Status fields

• InfoPath can be used to customize submission/edit/view Forms

• Create connections to Web services, databases, etc. to populate form

• Forms are accessible via web browser, or even as a Web Part

InfoPath Forms*

• SharePoint web access allows users to view/edit files without the need to install software on their computers

• OneNote• Meeting notes are easily accessible by project team members• Easily searched and categorized

• Excel• Utilized functionality within SharePoint to create web parts to

display information in a graphical format on pages.• Outlook

• Features can be activated to allow users to email a SharePoint list, or include the SharePoint calendar in meeting invitations

MS Office Integrations

• SharePoint list views allow designers/contributors to create custom views to better suit personalized or team needs

• Example:• PeopleSoft Development Team Page

• View to show currently unassigned tasks • View to show assigned tasks grouped by assignee

Customization of list views

• MS Project Server is now integrated directly with SharePoint, using the Project Web Application (PWA)

• This functionality creates a portfolio view• Outward facing page allows executive and third-party view of

project timelines and workload• Individual SharePoint pages for projects are used for

tracking tasks, issues, project documents, etc.• Resource information can be managed at an enterprise

level
