Some Hard facts• 37% of new business owners said they had encountered no difficulties in

forming or running their companies.– However, of those who did cite difficulties:– 36% listed unpredictability– 28% named lack of access to credit

• Founders' increased the use of personal savings to start their businesses:– Personal savings to fund the startup jumped to 86% in 2013. – Credit cards at 16% – Retirement savings at 8.5% – Bank or home equity loans at 6.5 %

• Survey findings also showed that:– Businesses with 1 to 4 employees increased to 26.5% in 2013.– 12% of the respondents had revenues above $100,000

• 35% of the new business owners were female•

A Career in the Fitness Industry

1. Earned BS in Health Science & Recreation in 1974 2. Worked 25 years as an fitness center owner

operator. Grew from 1 location to 44 located in 5 states. (Sold my stock to partner)

3. Consulted nationwide as grand opening expert until 9/11/01 when travel changed (outside influence forced this change)

4. Business provides financing to fitness centers & now also franchises so 2/15 launched dba Business Finance Depot.

5. Launching crowdfunding campaign for a youth fitness concept

Reinventing Myself

• Invested my savings & earnings every step of the way• Pursued Higher Education to learn new required skills

– Enrolled in Broward College in 2008 to pursue a 2nd Degree in Accounting

– Matriculated to Florida Atlantic University in 2012 & am enrolled in Masters of Accounting Program
